Nora picks up her mother’s cellphone, only to hear Ricardo coo on the other end of the line: “Hello, my love! Haven’t you missed me?” The Gaxiola girls need to stop answering teléfonos ajenos/other people’s phones. Nothing good can come out of that. “Who’s speaking?” “Isn’t this the cellphone of Mrs. Rebeca Murillo?” “Yes, I’m her daughter. Who the devil are you?” I’m the devil person who’s calling your mother’s private phone. Why the devil are YOU answering? Ricardo hangs up without saying anything. Rebeca barges in, panicked, and tries to snatch her phone from Nora’s hands. Whora Minor demands to know who the heck is the guy who called Whora Major, her progenitor and mentor in all things hoe-related. “Why is he calling you ‘my love’ and why is it that you’re supposed to be missing him? Answer me! Don’t just stand there silent!” Rebeca reckons it’s a wrong number. Nora isn’t falling for this. The dude asked for her mother by name! Besides, why did Rebeca try to snatch the phone away? Surely this isn’t the first time that this guy calls. Rebeca is indignant at being the subject of her daughter’s suspicions. She affirms that she is not cheating on Nora’s father. The cheater in this house is him not her! Someone is doing this to harm and slander her (perjudicar), on the off chance that her daughter or her husband answer her cellphone. This is the handy work of either Sara Ezquerra or her spawn. They must have hired this mystery caller. Nora isn’t convinced: “Eso suena muy forzado. This sounds very contrived.” Rebeca tries another avenue: “Don’t you think that if I had someone who loved me, I wouldn’t be here putting up with the humiliations of your father?” Mmm. Yeah. I guess you have a point, Mommy Hoerest. You have as much dignity as I do.

Mario is at the fábrica/factory to discuss Amador’s terms for the dissolution of the partnership, but Alonso is distracted by his personal problems. He is eager to divorce Rebeca but he can’t do it: “Nora me tiene agarrado del cuello para que no lo haga. Nora has me by the throat to prevent me from doing it.” Mario is surprised because this issue is between the spouses. That’s in normal families. We Gaxiolas just don’t roll that way. We put the fun in dysfunction. “Things aren’t that simple. If the problem were only between Rebeca and me, well, we would fight until one of us drops dead, but because my daughters are in the middle (of this), things are very different.”

Rebeca calls Ricardo to scold him for his little stunt and to ask him to quit harassing her (acosar). He wants to meet and talk. Rebeca declines. There’s nothing to talk about. Ricardo insists: “Either you come to my place or I show up at yours!” Rebeca yields.

Lucía visits Dr. Román Andrade to fill him in on the latest shenanigans of his favorite patient. Nora is fine now, fine as in not dead, but Lucía is worried about her sister’s wellbeing, especially in light of upcoming revelations. She wants Dr. Andrade to be prepared for the storm that’s heading Nora’s way but she refuses to reveal any further details. However, she does have a bone to pick with him for prescribing (recetar) tranquilizers to an unstable nutter. Dr. Andrade assures her he prescribed no such drugs to Nora.

At Casa Treviño, Nazario is talking to the photo frame of his Trini when Marcelo shows up. Confused Curls wants to talk.

Rebeca meets Ricardo at a busy restaurant. So much for plausible deniability! Ricardo apologizes for his “clumsiness” (torpeza) the last time they met, when he sexually assaulted her, and promises he’ll wait until she decides to boink him of her own accord (por motu propio). Don’t hold your breath there, antsy pants! Get to the point of this meeting, will ya? Ricardo gets right down to it: He needs money. Rebeca mocks him for not having a penny to his name (no tener donde caerse muerto. Literally “To not have where to drop dead”) and for living on borrowed money (vivir de prestado) at his age. “Let’s just say I made some bad investments.” He gives her a piece of paper where he wrote down his bank account number and the sum he wants her to deposit. Moreover, he reminds her that he has already given her a little taste of the damage he could inflict on her life, so she’d better loosen those purse strings pronto.

Back at Casa Treviño, Nazario is feigning interest for Marcelo’s favorite topic of conversation: To tell or not to tell. That is the annoying question. This rehash scene was brought to you by Lala Milk.

At Casa Gaxiola, Tere finds a pill on the floor while tidying up Nora’s room, and she puts it in the pocket of her apron. Rebeca comes in and asks about Nora. She has gone out but Tere doesn’t know where to. Rebeca orders Tere to keep her mouth shut. She’d better not go blabbing about this to Alonso or Lucía.

Sara calls Alonso to check on Nora’s health. She tells him it is important that he be with his family these days. The doorbell rings and who it is but Suicide Sally ordering Sara to stay away from her father and to stop harassing her mother on the phone. She finishes her tirade and gets going. On her way out, she bumps into Ricardo who assumes she is one of his daughter’s friends. Nora disdainfully replies that she is no friend of anyone who lives in this house. Ricardo asks to speak with Sara. Five minutes is all he asks. He wants her to convince Lety to accept him as her father. How can she accept you after years of absence? It’s an absence you caused because you never told me I had a daughter! Lety doesn’t need you and doesn’t want anything to do with you! Why don’t you let Lety decide? The blame ping-pong then veers off to dangerous territory. Ricardo insinuates that Lety will need her father now more than ever since Sara is moving on with her life. He just hopes the guy is worth it. OK, your five minutes are up, so why don’t you kindly get the heck out of my house because MY daughter will be home soon? Your daughter or your lover? Pish aff, Ricardo!

Lucía is back at Casa Gaxiola. Everybody has already had their dinner but Tere offers to heat up a plate for her right away. Lucía declines. She only wants a glass of milk, preferably of the Lala persuasion. Tere shows her the pill she found near Nora’s bed.

Nora is also back home. Rebeca is not pleased that she went out when she is supposed to be unwell and bed-ridden. Nora says she went to see Sara Ezquerra to confront her about what she did to her mother. Rebeca thinks this was ill-advised and could prove counterproductive. Alonso won’t believe any of it and that woman will deny everything, anyway. Nevertheless, Nora feels her visit to Casa Ezquerra was not in vain. She has learnt a juicy piece of gossip: The insufferable (insufrible) Lety Ezquerra has a father. Or maybe the guy was there to see Sara and he invented he was Lety’s father for Nora’s benefit.

The next morning, Marcelo receives a hero’s welcome at the fábrica. He thanks Vinicio for helping him the night he was attacked. Lalo is adamant that the two-timing nightwatchman had something to do with Marcelo’s assault.

At Casa Gaxiola, Lucía awaits in Nora’s room. She tells her little sister that she is worried about her health, both physical and mental. Nora poo-poos that sisterly concern. Lucía changes gears and gets into crazy eyes mode. She shows her the pill Tere found and demands to know where she got it. Dr. Andrade never prescribed her any tranquilizers. No need to deny this because the pharmacy has confirmed to Lucía that the pill is a painkiller (analgésico). Nora lunges at her sister. Fight! Fight! Fight! Lucía quickly gets the upper hand and throws Nora on the bed. Lala Milk at work, folks. Gives you fighting power! Stronger bones and nails and headbutting abilities! Marcelo was right! This was all pretense to make Daddy feel bad! You and that mental case you call a mother devised this plan! Nora puts a pair of scissors to her neck and dares her sister to runteldat. Go ahead and rat me out to Daddy! I’ll prove to you that none of this is pretense! Lucía asks her to calm down. She won’t say anything to their father. A split second later, she manages to subdue Nora and take away the scissors. It’s that Lala Milk, I tell ya! Lucía says she’ll keep her mouth shut alright, because it’s Nora herself who’ll be doing the talking! Nora must go to Alonso and tell him that she regrets what she has done and that she has no objections to him divorcing her mother. Never! Especially not if Daddy gets together with that heffer! Lucía assures Nora that she’ll be the one to insist that their father move on with his life when she learns.... Learn what? Lucía holds her tongue. She just pleads with her little sister to please stop making things more difficult for Daddy. As if invoked, the rooster of this hen asylum comes in all smiles. He wants to check on his loony little chickadee. How is Nora feeling this morning? “Much better”, interjects Lucía. “In fact, she has something to tell you”. Nora hugs her father and cries.

At the fábrica, Marcelo is still on his “I Survived a Stabbing” victory lap. Normita welcomes him back to the office. He asks about Alonso. The boss is not here and Normita doubts he’ll come to work today. She is worried about his health. The man doesn’t complain but he’s not looking good and she’s afraid he might have another heart attack.

Back at Casa Gaxiola, Alonso is glad that Nora has realized she committed a mistake. She explains that she felt desperate when her dad announced he was leaving home. She felt abandoned and unloved. Alonso assures her that living somewhere else doesn’t change how he feels about her or how much he cares. He loves his youngest daughter with all his heart! Besides, one day she too will leave the house to live her life. Nora doubts it. The man she loves is going to marry her sister. Alonso maintains that some day, when she least expects it, a man will sweep her off her feet and will love her for who she is. Nora doesn’t share her father’s wild optimism. “Who would love a lunatic who has tried to kill herself twice?” “Darling, don’t say that! You’re not crazy! Forget what happened!” Besides, some men are really into loonies and you score rather well on the hot/crazy scale!

Mario has just hired Ligia’s replacement and antithesis. Alonso calls to ask that Mario file the divorce papers ASAP. Rebeca barges into Mario’s office. She swears she had nothing to do with Magdalena’s doomed wedding to Ricardo. “Remember, you an I were novios back then?” “No, we never were. I was courting you and you played with me for a while then ditched me. And I’m not throwing blame here. It’s been a long time ago.” Rebeca says she was very confused back then. Magdalena had just been jilted at the altar then Adriana died... “Then you got married to her husband!” adds Mario, eager to move the throwback Thursday chitchat along. “And I would still be happily married if it weren’t for that jerk who returned to fill my hubby’s head with venom!” Mario interrupts her: “I don’t understand what you’re doing here and why you’re telling me all these things.” Rebeca wants him to help her. She confides to him that Tricky Ricky has been blackmailing her since he got back to Puebla. She refused to give in to his threats and that’s why he’s been inventing these lies. “Why precisely you?” wonders Mario. Rebeca reckons maybe he  learnt that she was having problems with Alonso and he wanted to take advantage of the situation. “Sorry, Rebeca but this sounds very ‘elaborate’ and I don’t understand what you want me to do.” Rebeca shows him the note containing Ricardo’s bank account number and the sum he demands she give him. If she doesn’t deposit the money, he’ll invent other things about her. She pleads with Mario to find a legal means of ridding her of Ricardo.

Sara drops Lety off at work and tells her that her bio dad wants a relationship with her but the girl is not interested.

At Casa Zúñiga, they’re serving coffee, fruit and awkwardness; the breakfast of champions. Amador informs his wife that Rodrigo is living with his friend Sergio. She says she already knows, barely looking at him. “Why didn’t you tell me?” “Because Rodrigo doesn’t want you to know. He doesn’t want you to go looking for him.” “Don’t worry, he’ll be back home.” “He won’t return as long as you’re here! Perhaps you’re the one who ought to be leaving!” Amadiva loses his rag: “This is MY house! It’s the only thing I have left, goddammit!” He leaves the table in a huff. An innocent cup was harmed in the making of this tantrum. The housekeeper witnesses the scene and asks whether the lord and master will be having his breakfast. “What do you think?” snaps Brígida.

Lety TMZ introduces herself to the new secretary who asks to be addressed formally and refuses to reveal the identity of Mario’s current visitor. Rebeca bumps into Lety and learns that Tricky Ricky is the young woman’s father.

Lucía is with her aunt at the bridal shop. Magdalena thinks she looks ridiculous in her wedding gown. She looks good on the whole but there seems to be some weird white appendage sticking out of her corset. Lucía assures her that she looks amazing. While looking at herself in the mirror, Magdalena couldn’t help but think back to what happened to her with Ricardo. Oh, for the love of Crunchie! Give it a rest, woman! It’s been 25 years already! Lucía understands how her auntie feels. She went through the same thing a few months ago. However, thanks to their misfortune, aunt and niece have met wonderful men. Magdalena asks how Nora is taking all this. She swears she’ll do anything to stop the wedding. What about Marcelo’s ex-girlfriend? She’s having a hard time accepting that Marcelo has moved on with his life. Oh and by the way, Marcelo’s ex is Ligia’s cousin.

At the Harpies’ Nest, Daniela is indulging in a whinge fest. She is tired of being locked indoors, waiting for a miracle to happen that would bring Marcelo back to her. Milagros, the miracle worker, encourages her to keep her spirits up. Everything can be remedied, except for death. The Human Barnacle thinks this is what needs to happen to her. She needs to die so that her ordeal can end. Good bye, cruel world. If only! The viewers have been presenting offerings at the altar of every TN God for months, begging for the early demise of the Human Barnacle, to no avail. Rafaela is in the kitchen, drying the dishes and rolling her eyes. Milagros heads out to organize a religious service for Federico’s 5-month deathiversary. Rafaela tries to reason with the unreasonable brat. She advises Daniela to stop listening to Mother Terror’s ideas. She is only giving her false hopes. Marcelo is not the only man in the world. “There are many men out there who would love to be with a young woman like you. A woman who, not only is beautiful, but has many qualities as well.” Many qualities. Many! Plural! Wow! Rafaela blew up the baloney-meter on this one!

At the fábrica, Alonso shows Marcelo the agreement (convenio) that Amadiva proposed for the dissolution of their business partnership. Naturally, all the clauses (cláusulas) favor Amadiva. Alonso would like Marcelo to review the document meticulously (minuciosamente) before they can start haggling (regatear) again. Cool beans, boss! I’m on it! Alonso praises Marcelo for his integrity and honesty. He has always trusted him and he is happy that his daughter Lucía has a trustworthy man she can rely on if her dad were to pass on. Marcelo assures Alonso that this death talk is very premature. Besides, Marcelo feels he doesn’t deserve all this unconditional trust. He has committed many mistakes in the past. “What mistakes?” enquires Alonso. Normita interrupts. Marcelo has been saved by a long-distance call to Chile.

Nora reports back to her mother about what happened with Lucía this morning. Rebeca is hopping mad because her daughter has just given Alonso permission to leave her. Nora denies doing that. She didn’t explicitly give her father any such permission. “But you freed him of any sense of guilt!” This amounts to giving her blessing to her parents’ divorce! Rebeca feels she can’t rely on anyone. She will find a way to stop the divorce herself!

Back at the Harpies’ Nest, Daniela decides to heed Rafaela’s advice. So she calls Ricardo. *facepalm*

Nora ambushes Marcelo in his office. She tells him she missed him and she is glad he is recovered. Marcelo is happy she’s OK too. “I guess my sister told you that you hit the mark (acertar) with your guess about my attempted suicide?” “She didn’t but I’m not surprised. You’re a very sneaky girl (una niña mañosa)!” “And so is my sister!” She proceeds to tell him that Lucía has a new beau, Dr. Román Andrade, Nora’s psychiatrist. He is crazy about Lucía and she is not indifferent to his charms because they keep meeting up to “allegedly” talk bout Nora. Marcelo has heard enough. He walks to the door to show Nora out. Wrong move, buster! She blocks him against the wall and he’s too much of a gentleman softie to impose distance when she invades his personal space and starts rubbing up against him. She maintains that Lucía is playing him and that he’s too much of a fool to see it. Besides, the woman who truly loves you is yours truly! Nora tries to turn his face toward hers but he keeps looking away. “Don’t you dare, Nora!” orders Lucía, who has witnessed the last part of this exchange. Nora plants a wet one on Marcelo. “You’re just like your mother! You’re a hoe who doesn’t have the slightest scruple about offering herself up to whomever she have in front of her, Nora.” “Be careful with what you say!” “No, get ready! Because when I tell you what your mother did and with whom she cheated on our father, se te va a caer la cara de vergüenza, you’ll hang your head in shame, and you’ll never want to get close to Marcelo again!” Boom!

Gil-dong is dragged into the jail where Choongwongoon resides, and he acts as the loyal “footstool,” worried about his precious royal highness. But once they’re separated by the jail cells, Gil-dong becomes explicitly two-faced. Gil-dong smirks at Choongwongoon’s assumption that his dim “footstool” will do as told at the hearing, while we see in a quick flashback that Gil-dong planted an accusatory note in Choongwongoon’s porn book (which Heotaehak stole right after Choongwongoon’s subpoena).

Ja-kwang explains to the scholars that Choongwongoon’s hearing will be heavily guarded and omitted from records because they will be interrogating a royal. The king has only allowed select officials to be present at the trial, but Ja-kwang extends an invitation to Gil-hyun, since he played a big role in finding evidence. But Gil-hyun refuses the offer, wishing to follow the king’s orders without exception.

At the trial, Choongwongoon yells about this injustice, vowing to prove his innocence. He looks relieved at the sight of Yeonsangun, but his smile drops when the king doesn’t show any sign of familiarity. Ja-kwang provides the background on the trial: In the process of uprooting Kim Jong-jik’s followers, Kim Il-son revealed the names of his students. Among them, Lee Jong-soo accused Choongwongoon of spreading treasonous rumors.

Choongwongoon desperately reminds Yeonsangun about his admiration for the king. Although Yeonsangun looks more sympathetic and hesitant in response to Choongwongoon’s pleas, he lets the trial commence.

Outside the gates, Jeong-hak tells Gil-hyun that the king has begun the trial. Jeong-hak wishes he could be present at the trial to witness this, but he suspects that the king may just be orchestrating this trial with no real intention of punishing Choongwongoon. He points out that the witnesses are two loyal followers of Choongwongoon, so the king may be providing a way out for his royal family. At that realization, Gil-hyun looks worried.

At the trial, Lee Jong-soo (captured as a colleague of Kim Il-son) enters and testifies against Choongwongoon. Although he was not particularly close with the royal, he’s attended his parties and claims that he definitely heard Choongwongoon speak defamatory comments about King Sejo. Choongwongoon erupts in indignation, and Lee Jong-soo is pressured to provide further support for his claims.

In a flashback, we see Gil-dong providing Lee Jong-soo with private information that Choongwongoon shared in confidence. At the trial, Lee Jong-soo shares his knowledge about the eagle gift exchange between the king and Choongwongoon, and the disclosure of this private exchange paints Choongwongoon as a gossiper, thus planting suspicion in the king.

The witnesses are summoned next. Heotaehak has yet to respond to the summoning, but “footstool” Gil-dong arrives in court with an innocent mask on. Eunuch Kim recognizes Gil-dong with shock and watches Gil-dong happily greet Choongwongoon. Gil-dong nods at the order to testify as told, but his smile gradually morphs into a serious face, ready for business.

At the musician troupe’s quarters, the jealous women criticize Nok-soo for reporting rumors to the king, and Wolhamae tries to disprove these criticisms by asking Nok-soo herself. But Nok-soo confirms her deeds. She’s divorced and left her child, so she’s using any means possible to prove her worth to the king. Nok-soo vows to get to the top and repay the world for all the hardship it bestowed on her. Looking afar with nostalgia, Nok-soo shares with Wolhamae that her time with Gil-dong must have been a dream. Other fates — not love and happiness — are allotted to her life, she claims.

Back at Bandit HQ, Ga-ryung assures Amogae that Gil-dong will return safely, since she threatened him to do so. He mirrors her smile, but her smile turns doubtful. She asks if Gil-dong will really be okay, and Amogae nods with assurance.

Gil-dong testifies in the trial and acts clueless when they ask about Choongwongoon committing treason (“Huh, what’s that?”), so they dumb it down and ask if Choongwongoon spread any bad rumors about King Sejo. Initially, Gil-dong only has positive things to say on Choongwongoon’s behalf, claiming that the royal only boasted of his grandfather supporting King Sejo and of his respect for the late king. Then, he gets creative.

Gil-dong claims that Choongwongoon got in a fight with Lee Jong-soo, and this is news to Choongwongoon. Gil-dong nods at Lee Jong-soo, and they proceed with their aligned stories. Gil-dong claims that Choongwongoon found no issue with King Sejo taking in Lady Yoon and Lady Kwon, since he was the ruler. Lee Jong-soo continues on with the story, confirming that Choongwongoon found no problem with King Sejo raping Lady Yoon and Lady Kwon, who were both concubines of King Sejo’s son.

At the “realization” that King Sejo raped his daughter-in-laws, Gil-dong reacts with surprise and claims that he had no idea. Lee Jong-soo continues to testify with another claim, a true one this time. He reports that Choongwongoon found no issue with King Sejo’s disposal of his nephew’s corpse (Prince Nosan, formerly King Danjong) to feed to the wild beasts. Gil-dong fans the fire, and Choongwongoon orders him to say no more.

Turning to the king, Choongwongoon tries to explain his side. But Yeonsangun doesn’t listen and expresses his disappointment that Choongwongoon actually believed these bad rumors. The guilty Choongwongoon gets dragged away while demanding that Heotaehak to stand as witness, and Gil-dong smiles to himself. Eunuch Kim observes Gil-dong from afar and smiles to himself as well.

Heotaehak packs his valuables, ready to flee the area while Gil-dong and Choongwongoon fight. Mori admits that he has known about his leader’s deal with Amogae, but Heotaehak doesn’t intend on joining the bandit brotherhood. Instead, he’s looking to pull the rug from under their feet and take over the silver mine while they’re diligently fighting off Choongwongoon.

The king wonders if Choongwongoon is simply a foolish but true supporter of King Sejo or if he’s performing with a loyal façade while actually disparaging the king. He hopes that it’s the former, but he will have no mercy if Choongwongoon proves to be disloyal.

Upon the king’s orders, the royal guards search through Choongwongoon’s house. Gil-hyun joins the guards in the room and notices a piece of paper stuck in the cover of the porn book. It’s a copy of the incriminating eulogy.

Gil-hyun brings this evidence to the king, who then determines his course of action. He releases Lee Jong-soo and the “footstool” servant, since they were important players in capturing a traitor. Then, he renounces Choongwongoon’s official connection with the royal family and orders a thorough search, deprived of all the royal immunities.

Gil-dong greets the newly released Lee Jong-soo and thanks him for his help. Lee Jong-soo reciprocates the gratitude, saying that he never thought he could be free because of Kim Il-son’s accusation. He reunites with his young daughters, and Gil-dong nods at Yonggae and Ilchung upon completion of their successful mission.

The bandits return to the Hwalbin House, where Ga-ryung paces back and forth in worry. She approaches them with anticipation and asks where Gil-dong is. They remain silent and look solemn, so Ga-ryung assumes the worst and begins to cry. Then, Gil-dong appears, and the bandit crew gets a good laugh out of teasing adorable Ga-ryung. She claims that she wasn’t worried about Gil-dong and walks away from him, and he smiles.

With no royal protections this time, Choongwongoon is interrogated by Gil-hyun. He’s shown the written eulogy found in the porn book that Gil-dong gifted him, and everything comes together. Choongwongoon demands that the “footstool” be re-summoned to court, but the evidence is all too clear now. Gil-hyun orders the guards to continue with the punishment, and we see that these guards were bribed by our bandits to really punish this man of debauchery. They hit Choongwongoon with all their might, and with a slip of the paddle, they injure his crown jewels.

News of Choongwongoon’s big injury reaches Eunuch Kim, but when he reports this to the king, he shows little worry for his now estranged royal family member. He simply tells Eunuch Kim to find a place for Choongwongoon’s exile.

Eop-san urgently runs to the Hwalbin House, where the bandits are waiting for the punishment verdict. They interpret Eop-san’s hesitance as bad news — that Choongwongoon would be released after a beating because of the royal family connection. But they’ve assumed wrong, and Eop-san happily reports that Choongwongoon has been exiled. They jump and hug in celebration of this miracle. They framed the wretched royal!

Gil-dong returns to Bandit HQ to report this good news to his father, but he finds his father’s limp body sitting outside. He cautiously calls out to his father, and Amogae slowly lifts his head (oh thank god). Gil-dong tells his father of Choongwongon’s punishment, and he takes his father’s hand to watch a good sight.

A bloody and weak Choongwongoon lies in his jail cell, and Gil-hyun approaches him with a confession that he’s been wanting to meet him. He didn’t know this moment would come so soon, but he wishes for Choongwongoon to experience living hell in the harsh conditions of his exile.

On his way to exile the next morning, Choongwongoon gets shamed by the villagers, who throw rocks and food at him. He looks up and finds a line of familiar faces watching him from a veranda. He first spots Amogae, then gibang owner Soboori, then the line of bandits who entertained him at the gibang, and finally, “footstool” Gil-dong. He remembers Madam Jo’s warning about Amogae’s ominous second son and identifies Gil-dong as that son. They send off the enemy, and Amogae requests that they head to Ikhwari.

Choongwongoon is thrown into his shabby exile home, and as he tries to fall asleep, he finds maggots next to him. He greets them and says that no one else seeks his company. He miserably wonders if this is how he will spend his life.

The bandits travel back to Ikhwari, where they are welcomed warmly by the villagers. Eop-san’s father limps toward his oldest friend, Amogae, and they embrace. Eop-san holds his father in an emotional homecoming to his family. Magistrate Eom also makes an appearance and welcomes Amogae back to his home.

Amogae reminisces on the olden days with Soboori, Magistrate Eom, and Yonggae. They tell the stories and laugh over drinks, and Amogae watches them with a whiff of distant nostalgia.

Amogae gathers everyone and announces that he wants to create a family name. He reveals it to be “Hong”, which means “boisterous.” He explains that they eat and drink and laugh with each other nonstop, so he finds the name to be fitting. Their family name will be Hong, and their homeland will be Ikhwari.

They go around calling each other with their family names, from Hong Ilchung to Hong Yonggae to Hong Segul to Hong Kkeutsae to Hong Eop-san (it’s very cute). And finally, Hong Gil-dong. Amogae nods and says it again: Hong Gil-dong.

Amogae watches the sun set from his home, and Gil-dong covers his father with another layer. Amogae tells his son that he doesn’t need to think too hard. “You live because you’re born, fight because you need to fight, and when the time comes, you die.” He hands his prayer beads to Gil-dong, and Gil-dong hesitantly accepts them. The time has come to pass on the legacy.

Madam Jo hears from Jeong-hak about Choongwongon’s exile and rushes to find him. She catches him just as he’s about to hang himself, and she asks how he ended up in this state. He cries that Amogae is still alive and condemned him to this place, and Madam Jo is shocked at this news.

Seeking help, Madam Jo approaches Scholar Song and asks that he meet someone who was a strong pillar for the nation. She describes a group of people who cannot be crushed and accuses them of framing Choongwongoon.

At Ikhwari, Amogae downs a bottle of alcohol and claims that he feels much more alive at his home. He stands up and gives them a big bow, thanking them for following his ordinary self into fire and ice, for living and eating together. Thanks to them, he’s lived a fun life. They cheer to the Hong family, and Amogae joyfully drinks away.

Gil-dong helps his father into bed that evening, and his father calls his son, Gil-hyun. That reminds Gil-dong about his lost brother and sister. He insisted to his bandit crew that they continue to search for them, but Eop-san showed him Eorini’s shoe as evidence of her death and revealed that his father wanted to keep this a secret from his hurting son.

Back at his father’s bedside, Gil-dong takes his father’s hand and cries. He thinks back to his father’s plea for Gil-dong to forget his family, fly away to great heights, and live a different life from his father.

Gil-dong falls asleep next to his father, and Amogae dreams of Gil-dong. He asks the shaman in his dream about how Gil-dong can live out his fate. She tells him that Gil-dong will die. If the granted powers are not used for good, the person will die, and Gil-dong is using his powers in the wrong way.

Gil-dong wakes up to his father watching him. Amogae tells his son that they’ll go to meet their mother. Gil-dong nods, unaware of the implications of that request.

FRIDAY ON KILL ME HEAL ME - EPISODE 11 ON JOY PRIME @6:AM

After hearing Se-gi’s ultimatum, Grandma Seo sends her henchmen to check on her son. Se-gi got to him first, however, and kidnapped him after disabling the surrounding cameras. Grandma Seo orders her men to continue the search discreetly, so the police don’t get wind of what happened.

Ri-jin is back at the family restaurant, after Ri-on took her away from Do-hyun’s apartment. She shares a cup of tea with Dr. Seok and asks if Do-hyun was ever a victim of abuse. She remembers Se-gi accusing Do-hyun’s mother of being a complicit witness to abuse, and thinks that Do-hyun’s personalities must have evolved to deal with that trauma.

Se-gi calls Ri-jin, and they meet on the steps outside the restaurant. “Should I steal Seungjin Group?” he asks. If Ri-jin wants the company, he’ll give it to her. If not, he’ll take it and destroy it.

“So don’t kill me,” he pleads. “Even if it means being Cha Do-hyun’s false image, let me stay by your side.” A tear falls down Ri-jin’s face. Se-gi extends his hand to Ri-jin: “Come with me.”

Ri-jin reaches for his hand, but Ri-on arrives and stops her in her tracks. “Don’t make this worse than it already is,” he warns Se-gi. Se-gi remembers Ri-on’s earlier words, about him having no right to meet Ri-jin because he is a son of Seungjin Group, and he takes his hand away. Ri-on leads Ri-jin back inside, leaving Se-gi behind in the cold.

Ri-jin stops Ri-on at the doorway to her room and asks why he has changed lately. “You were always on my side,” she says. Ri-on swears that he is still on her side, and that what he’s doing now is for her own good.

“So trust me,” he pleads. “Stop asking me to trust you and trust me for once.” There may come a day when she’s grateful for it.

In her study, Grandma Seo reviews CCTV footage from the hospital where Se-gi found his father. As she watches, Se-gi strolls through the lobby and, seeing the camera, backs up to wave knowingly. Grandma stands up, trembling. She moves to get a drink, then collapses to the floor.

Ri-jin speaks to Ri-on through his closed door. She has decided to go with Se-gi, with or without her family’s approval. “I think I’m a part of this game,” she says, “and I have to play it to the end. I want to take responsibility.” Ri-on’s anguished expression is heartbreaking, as he listens silently with his back against the door.

Ri-jin walks away from the restaurant, when Ri-on comes running after her and whacks her on the head. He says with composure that he’ll drive her. Ri-jin’s face breaks into the biggest smile, and she jumps on Ri-on’s back gleefully. Aww, I was hoping Ri-on wouldn’t stay away for long!

The car pulls up in front of Do-hyun’s apartment. Before Ri-on leaves, Ri-jin asks if he wants to do “that thing we used to do so well when we were children.” Ri-on: “Are you crazy?! We’re too old for that!” But a second later he’s back by her side.

Ri-on: If you ask who we are…
Ri-jin: It is human nature to answer!
Ri-on: To prevent the destruction of this world!
Ri-jin: To protect the peace of this world!
Ri-on: To carry out the evils of truth and love!

Ri-jin: Pokémon Experts! Super-cute villains!
Ri-on: I’m Ri-on!
Ri-jin: I’m Ri-jin!
Ri-on: For Team Rocket running around the universe!
Ri-jin: We are waiting for the beautiful world of tomorrow!

The twins end their Team Rocket chant with a triumphant pose, and then… “I’m going,” Ri-on says. “Bye,” Ri-jin replies. They walk away without a single word acknowledging the awesomeness that just happened. Ri-on turns around to watch Ri-jin enter the apartment, however, and his lips curve upward in a sad smile.

Ri-jin finds Se-gi in the living room, hunched over with his head buried in his arms. When she asks why he isn’t sleeping, Se-gi replies: “Because I might disappear.” Ri-jin thinks back to a conversation with Dr. Seok, when he asked if she ever gets confused about her relationships with Do-hyun or Se-gi. But Ri-jin believes that they are different sides of the same person, and each time she finds a similarity between them, she hopes that they can be reconciled.

Ri-jin offers to lend Se-gi her shoulder so he can sleep. “A man doesn’t borrow a woman’s shoulder,” he scoffs, but the vulnerability in his eyes as he turns away undercuts his tough words.

Se-gi and Ri-jin spend the night in the living room, close to each other but not touching. Se-gi watches Ri-jin as the sunlight wakes her up, and smiles sweetly. Ri-jin wonders if Do-hyun really isn’t coming back.

Ki-joon and his father discuss the chairwoman’s collapse and how it could be an opportunity for them. His father urges Ki-joon to find Do-hyun’s weakness, and to consolidate power for the fast-approaching leadership struggle.

Chief Ahn calls Ri-jin, who lets him know that Se-gi is still in control of Do-hyun’s body. Lurking behind the door, Ki-joon overhears Chief Ahn say that Do-hyun still hasn’t returned, and interprets that to mean that he is playing hooky. He orders Chief Ahn to tell Do-hyun to get his ass to work.

Since Ri-jin hasn’t officially chosen between Se-gi and Do-hyun, Se-gi decides to leave it to the gods of chance… sort of. He’s built a spinwheel with two sections, one for him and one for Do-hyun, but the Do-hyun section is approximately one percent of the entire wheel. He and Ri-jin spin the wheel, and to their mutual astonishment it lands on Do-hyun’s tiny sliver of a section.

Se-gi roars in dismay, while Ri-jin goes into damage control mode. She assures him that it’s invalid, then brings him to the living room to cool down. Se-gi pouts there like a spoiled child, insisting they invalidate that roll. Ri-jin offers to forget about the wheel results if Se-gi works a little harder to appeal to her.

Affronted, Se-gi declares: “My very existence is a lump of appeal!” Pfft. But Ri-jin insists that Do-hyun has a lot of positive qualities that Se-gi lacks (I’ll say), and if Se-gi wants Ri-jin’s affection, he’d better shape up.

Se-gi accuses Ri-jin of being unfair, since she’s asking him not to destroy Do-hyun’s world when Do-hyun already ruined his world by stealing Ri-jin. Ri-jin’s cajoling mask slips as she yells, “I’m not yours yet!” Se-gi hilariously shrinks backward, and Ri-jin resumes her sugary-sweet tone.

Ri-jin asks Se-gi to follow three rules. First, he must not get angry (“Is that even possible?” Se-gi snorts). Second, even if he does get angry he must not use violence (“I asked, is that even possible?!”). Third, he must not ruin anyone else’s reputation.

Se-gi balks at first, but he comes around once Ri-jin threatens to treat the Wheel of Fate as binding and choose Do-hyun. Ri-jin asks if it’s a deal. Se-gi struggles mightily, but in the end he chokes out his agreement.

Ri-jin helps Se-gi prepare for work, though she has to convince him not to wear a blindingly bright shirt. She lends a helping hand when he struggles with his tie, already dressed in her secretary outfit.

Ri-jin tries to change Se-gi’s hair, which is gelled to perfection, but Se-gi finally draws the line: “This is all that remains of my pride. Touch it, and our compromise is over.” Good work, Se-gi—protect the ‘do at all costs!

Meanwhile, Chae-yeon meets with her mother and Ki-joon’s mother for a bridal gown fitting. She looks breathtaking, but her fiancé is not there to see. Ki-joon’s mother directs the proceedings, ordering alterations and additional dresses. Chae-yeon spaces out briefly, then asks for a moment alone to check her makeup.

In the bathroom, Chae-yeon thinks back to the night when Se-gi came to her apartment. He said that he knows she doesn’t have the courage to leave Ki-joon, and he doesn’t have the courage to hold on to her. But he offers her the choice to keep meeting after she gets married, without Ki-joon knowing.

Se-gi and Ri-jin arrive at the office, and Se-gi is already struggling with his good-guy act. He loosens his tie, only for Ri-jin to chide him for acting like a high school bully. He tells her to get rid of the purse that Do-hyun’s mother gave her as a bribe, and Ri-jin observes that he probably dislikes the person who gave the gift more than the gift itself. When she refuses to ditch the purse, Se-gi takes off his tie and throws it on the ground.

“I won’t wear it,” Se-gi declares. “Throw [the purse] away.” Ri-jin doesn’t miss a beat as she replies: “I won’t throw it away. Wear [the tie].” Their exchange has a catchy rhythm, and their petty argument flows naturally into a rap battle (yes, you read that right). Chief Ahn hurries over to remind them that they’re in public, which is a shame because they were just hitting their groove.

Chief Ahn tells Se-gi to report to Ki-joon’s office for a one-on-one meeting. Before he goes, Se-gi recites Ri-jin’s three rules like a mantra: “Must not get angry. Must not use violence. Must not ruin others’ reputations.” Chief Ahn is understandably impressed with Ri-jin, wondering how she tamed Se-gi.

Ki-joon brings Se-gi up to speed on his next task, which involves convincing the leader of an idol group to renew his contract. The idol group in question brings in over 80 billion won a year (around 80 million dollars), and you may remember them as the idols we met when Yo-na went into fangirl mode. Oh, this is going to be good.

The twist is that the idol leader, JI, is a horrible actor who nevertheless wants the lead in an upcoming ID Entertainment movie. If he doesn’t get the role he won’t renew his contract. Ki-joon challenges Se-gi to use the skills that landed the Omega writer and extend JI’s contract without casting him in the movie.

Se-gi doesn’t take the order well, and Ki-joon tells him there’s a limit to the disrespect he’s willing to tolerate. “Do you want to die?” he asks. “No,” Se-gi replies, treating the threat literally. “I want to live more than anyone else.” Ri-jin’s reminder not to use violence echoes in his mind. “Which is why your head is still attached to your neck.”

Se-gi and his entourage arrive to meet JI and his manager. JI immediately remembers the crazy duo from the fan meeting, and sneers that the vice president faked acting like a fan to get him to renew his contract. He walks out of the room in a huff.

In the hallway, Se-gi pins the idol to the wall and demands that he renew his contract. Ri-jin comes outside, only to see Se-gi clutching JI’s arm in an attempt to show how very non-violent he’s being.

Se-gi asks JI if he really wants to leave the company, and the idol replies that he doesn’t, but he also doesn’t want to give up his chance to act. Se-gi asks if giving him the role would get him to sign and says, “Let’s see your acting.”

JI performs snippets of scenes from famous movies (Gwanghae, Ajusshi), each one worse than the last. Following a cringe-worthy interpretation of a critical moment in Roaring Currents, Se-gi roars back: “It’ll woooooooork!!!” He offers JI the movie contract, saying that his crappy acting matches recent trends perfectly—HA!

Ri-jin chases after Se-gi in the hallway to scold him for doing things his own way. Se-gi wants Ki-joon to feel what it’s like to be screwed over, but Ri-jin says that Do-hyun will once again have to clean up Se-gi’s mess. Offended, Se-gi points out that he did everything she asked: He held in his anger, didn’t use violence, and did his best to carry out Do-hyun’s responsibilities. Ri-jin knows he’s got a point, and apologizes for bringing up Do-hyun when Se-gi is trying so hard.

Mollified, Se-gi takes Ri-jin’s hand. He leads her down the hallway towards the exit, saying that it’s time they had fun—he’s tired of cosplaying as Do-hyun.

Se-gi takes Ri-jin on a romantic adventure, starting with the video arcades, and then a photo booth where they succeed in being all kinds of adorable.

Next stop is a boutique, since Se-gi thinks that Ri-jin is too old-fashioned in her choice of makeup. He asks the attendant to transform Ri-jin, and buys every product in sight. At first Ri-jin declines because it’s Do-hyun’s money, but she reverses her position when Se-gi shows the characteristic signs of an impending tantrum. She only insists on buying one product herself, as a gift for someone else.

Ri-jin wanders outside until she reaches the open courtyard where Do-hyun first kissed her. She experiences once again the memories of her encounters with Do-hyun’s personalities, from Yo-sub’s suicide attempt to Yo-na’s bunny pajamas and everything in between.

When Se-gi joins her, Ri-jin asks him whether he can’t share some of his pain with Cha Do-hyun by revealing his hidden memories. “Share with that weakling?” Se-gi scoffs.

But Ri-jin replies that Do-hyun isn’t weak at all; he takes over when every other personality disappears, cleaning up after them and protecting everyone else. That proves his strength. Se-gi doesn’t respond to Ri-jin’s request, instead complaining that even though it’s just the two of them, it feels like Do-hyun is tagging along on their date.

Back at the company parking garage, Ri-jin apologizes for sticking her nose needlessly in Se-gi’s relationship with Do-hyun. Chief Ahn arrives, telling Se-gi that Grandma Seo is looking for him—Se-gi mutters that her response is slower than he’d hoped. Se-gi drives off with Chief Ahn after asking Ri-jin to stay at the office. Just as they leave, however, Ri-jin receives a call from her mother.

At the family restaurant, Mom tells Ri-jin that she’s only forgiving her this once because of Dad’s intercession. If she tries to trick them again, she’ll be in deep trouble. Ri-jin pours on the aegyo now that she’s been forgiven, and Mom cooks up a storm so Ri-jin will have familiar food at Do-hyun’s apartment.

Ri-jin gives Mom the makeup that she bought with Se-gi, and mother and daughter hilariously compliment each other on their good looks. Mom asks where Ri-jin is living, and the ominous music starts to play. Ri-jin leans in to whisper: “I… can never tell you.” Whew… that’s one disaster averted, at least for the moment.

Chief Ahn interrogates Se-gi in the car, guessing that he was responsible for Grandma Seo’s collapse. He warns Se-gi to keep Do-hyun’s secret, because Se-gi won’t gain anything if the world finds out. Se-gi wonders, however, who would really suffer more if the truth came out: him, or Do-hyun?

Grandma Seo enters a private room with a safe, from which she takes out a Non-Disclosure agreement and 5 billion won. Chief Ahn and Se-gi arrive at the house, and Se-gi sends the chief away before heading in to his grandmother’s study. The portrait of his grandfather watches over his back as Se-gi advances towards Grandma Seo.

Se-gi opens with his ultimatum: If Grandma Seo wants her son back, she must hand over the company. When she asks how a son can possibly act against his own father, Se-gi says that he remembers all too well what kind of father Dad was. Grandma insists that no matter what Se-gi remembers, Dad was the one who saved him from the fire.

Se-gi roars with anger, grabbing Grandma by the shoulders, saying that he never once asked to be saved. “Instead of me, he should have saved the other child! That’s the human thing to do!”

He vows to take control of Seungjin Group and give it to the other child—as atonement. Grandma Seo spits back that if that’s the case, she will never give him the company.

Se-gi says he gave her a chance, and that she’s the one who chose the company over her son. After Se-gi leaves the office, Grandma calls her henchmen and orders them to follow Se-gi.

Ri-jin goes looking for Ri-on in his room, and comments that its messy appearance reflects its owner’s state of mind. As she begins to tidy up, she accidentally jostles a box full of papers. These are the details of Ri-on’s investigation into Seungjin Group, including newspapers dating back long before Ri-jin ever met Do-hyun. As Ri-jin looks through the papers, Ri-on walks into his room.

The puzzle pieces are fitting together in Ri-jin’s mind, and she confronts Ri-on about how much he knew. She deduces that the newspaper articles have something to do with why Ri-on didn’t want her talking about Do-hyun or the Seungjin Group to their parents, and asks him to explain.

As Se-gi drives to where he’s hidden his father, he is tormented by his memories. “He should have saved the other child!” he mutters, while clutching his head in reaction to the shooting pain. As his memories of the basement rage, Cha Do-hyun awakens somewhere in his subconscious mind.

The nightmare of the basement repeats, but this time Do-hyun remembers that there was another child trapped with him. The shadowy figure approaches, and Do-hyun sees that it is his own father, hand raised in a threatening gesture.

Do-hyun opens his eyes, back in control of his body, and the first thing he sees is his father’s comatose figure lying in front of him. Dad’s fingers twitch, and Do-hyun’s arms rise instinctively to protect his face. “I’m sorry, Father,” he whimpers. “I was wrong.” The haunting tune from the child’s music box plays in the background, and then Dad’s fingers move. Do-hyun falls back, cowering before his father.
