Rebecca sobs over Al's most likely lifeless body,  still professing her love for him and still clutching the pills that most likely could or could have saved him.  I love you..and you never cared.  My love..my love.  She doesn't bother to check for a pulse or see if the love of her life needs medical attention.  As always, Rebecca's first thought is preserving herself and with Al's own handkerchief she wipes her prints off the pill bottle before tossing them into his hand.   She leaves him there, either barely hanging on to life… or dead.

Meanwhile at the hospital, Lucia wonders what's keeping her father. Her padrino tells her he should be here soon, but Lucia say no her father should have arrived by now.   She asks Nora for her cell phone, but Nora says no can do, I left it at home.  Lucia uses the hospital bedside phone and gets Al's voicemail. Next she tries the house and it rings and rings;  frustrated she hangs up.  She questions Nora again about Al's condition before leaving the house.  Nora tells her again, that he was asleep, though strangely  it was on her mother's bed.  The room was tossed pretty badly too.  This further alarms Lucia and she tells Naz he needs to take her to her father now!  He tells her he has to see about the hospital bill/discharge first. He leaves to take care of that and Nora asks her sister if she thinks something bad happened to her father.  Lucia already in a mild state of panic, says she doesn't know, but she feels something very bad in her chest.

At the nurses station Naz crosses paths with Sara who wonders why they are still there, didn't Al come yet?  Naz tells her no and Lucia is worried because they've tried reaching him but his cell phone is off and there's no answer at the house.  Now he's worried too because Nora says when she left the house, Al wasn't well.   Sara is clearly concerned and she tells Naz to take Lucia now, she will deal with the rest of the hospital discharge.   All she wants is for Naz to let her know right away how Al is when they locate him.  It's clear Sara has a bad feeling too and after Naz goes back to the room, she tries Al's cell phone.  Voicemail.

Back at Marcelo's he has the misfortune of dining with his mother. She wonders why he isn't with his little girlfriend at the hospital.  He explains that Al was coming for her and he had no reason to be there, besides she was going to sleep the rest of the night.  He'll see her in the morning  First thing I'm sure!  She then tells Marcelo that she ran into Rebecca at the church.  What time?  Oh around six or seven, why?  Marcelo says no reason he was just wondering.  Mili says she never expected to see her there, but the hypocrite is probably one of those who gets an urge to go and beat her chest, so she'll look good in front of others.  You don't even know her, why don't you like her?  I don't know need to know her to know what kind of person she is.  Don't tell me you like her? Marcelo has had enough of the topic and I'll bet his lovely dinner companion too; and he tells Mili he's going to bed.   Alright…well goodnight!  Rafi comes to clear the dishes and Mili says what a strange son she has.  Rafi says he's tired, you heard him. Mili gives Rafi her usual eye roll.

Rebecca shows up to the Zuniga gate and hesitates but finally rings the bell.  You here? Rebecca lies and says she's been there a while but she didn't dare ring the bell.  Brigi has no idea why Rebecca would come there, especially after their last visit and as far as she's concerned they have nothing to talk about. Rebecca says that's why, she needs Brigi to hear her.   Brigi opens the gate and tells Rebecca to come inside the house.  Rebecca says most likely Amador is in there and what she has to say is between her and Brigi so she prefers to talk right there on the porch.   Brigi says she's listening.  Rebecca tells Brigi she owes her an apology. Really?   Rebecca says she knows she behaved badly and she didn't know how to handle the difficult times she was going through and she lost control.   Brigi says that doesn't mean she has to put up with her affronts.  Well, that's why I'm here, I’m sorry.   Brigi softens and asks if what Nora told her is true, that she and Alonso are going to divorce.   Yes, *sniff* he's leaving me for Sara Ezquerra, but that's a discussion for another day.  I just didn't want to let another day pass without asking for an apology.   Brigi notices that Rebecca is trembling and asks if she's sure she doesn't want to come in for a glass of water.  Rebecca politely declines and says she has to return to her house, it's been hours since she left.  Brigi gives the pained and sympathetic gaze that says everything is okay between them and Rebecca thanks the gullible woman for listening to her.  Rebecca has her alibi in place and the desperate Brigi who is so eager for a friend she'll walk right into a web spun by a black widow, eating out of her hand.   Who was that?  Asks Amadiva who is doing his usual mixology.  Brigi who is obviously pleased at the idea that anyone would come to seek her out for forgiveness, let alone Rebecca Murillo, tells him.  Whaaaaat? Yes, just as you heard. Brigi is up on that society pillar again.  The poor woman is so full of problems and she realized what a good friend I am so she came to apologize.  Amadiva who is also from the rodent family, smells one and tells Brigi that Rebecca Murillo doesn't take a step without being certain of where she's going.  If she asked for forgiveness, it's because she wants something.   Brigi-duh defends Rebecca who was a bundle of nerves.  She actually tells Amadiva that Rebecca swallowed  her pride to come and apologize to her.  Poor Brigi.   Amadiva still skeptical says if you say so.  Brigiduh has had enough of Amadiva raining on her I'm-back-in-Rebecca's-club moment and tells him she doesn't know why he has to think the worst of everyone.   Better believe he'll seize on this moment later with Rebecca.

Naz, Lucia and Nora are at the casa Gax.  Lucia says if Al's car is parked it's because he's here.  Nora says she'll go check upstairs and Lucia says she'll go with her but Naz tells her no that she'll hurt her leg.   Lucia insists she needs to know where Al is.  Naz tells her that Nora already went upstairs to check and she should sit down.  Lucia is riled up though and there's no calming her down. She insists something is happening. Naz thinks with that attitude she will not solve anything, please calm down.  Nora yells down that Al is not up here, not in his bedroom, her mother's or even Lucia's.   Lucia insists if his car is here, he has to be here!  She hobbles over to the phone and calls Al's cell again.   Al's familiar ring tone, breaks the momentary silence and all three sets of eyes look around, wondering where the sound is coming rom.  Lucia realizes where it's coming from and she slams the phone down, hobbling as fast as the crutches will allow her; straight to Al's study.  Naz and Nora who is flying down the stairs are right behind her.  Lucia slides the doors open and sees her father's lifeless body on the rug.   She hurls the crutches away from her and leaps to where her father is, landing right along side him.  Pa! Pa wake up!  Nora and I are here now!  Pa please don't do this to me, please  Pa please says something to me.   She tries in vain to wake him, but Naz who has spotted the pill bottle in his beloved friend's hand knows Al most likely had a heart attack.  Lucia turns him over and Naz checks….there's no pulse.  He can't hear you.   As Lucia drapes herself across her father, a horrified Nora runs to her room.  Her sisters  anguished cries chasing all the way.. are still heard throughout the whole house as Nora sobs quietly alone.

Meanwhile Lety and Rod are enjoying an outing at the Auditorio De La Reforma  (A huge advertising plug here in this scene)  and Lety wonders what time the show starts, she hopes they have good seats.  Rod says in ten minutes but assures her that where ever they are she'll be able to see and hear it perfectly.  He rattles off the seating capacity for thirteen hundred making it the best choice for concerts and ballet.  Lety is impressed until she spots SlicRic walking toward her with Whinenelia, who spots Rod.  It's awk-ward.  Hi Lety, how are you?  Lety says well obviously not as good as you, how nice that you're well enough to go out.  She excuses herself to the restroom and Rod excuses himself too, but not before giving Whinenelia a stinky side eye.    Whinenelia asks who that little kid is.  Ric says he prefers to talk about it another time, but Whiney says they will talk about it now.  She thinks Ric had a thing with the girl.  She's my daughter!  Whiney is shocked and wonders why he never told her.  Ric says he wants to talk about it someplace private.  He doesn't want everyone hearing his biz.    Outside the restroom Rod waits patiently as Lety comes out clearly upset.  She ask Rod if they can leave but he wants to know why Lety reacted that way.  Who was that guy?  Lety says she wants to get as far away from that man as possible.  Why? Who is he?   Lety tells him Ric is her father.  Rod is shocked and Lety says she just found out about his existence but as far as she's concerned he could have remained non existent.  Rod isn't buying it though and says her reaction when she saw Rick with Whinenelia said otherwise.  You obviously care more than you're saying.   You know that girl?  Rod tells her she's Ligia's cousin and the one who accused him of murdering her.  Lety says wow how small the world is, because Whiney is also the ex of Marcelo.  You know which Marcelo I'm talking about.  Rod says, yup no need to tip toe around things, I know that chump is going to marry my ex.  Well speaking of Lucia I have something to tell you, because you're going to find out anyway.  Rod gets his hopes up and asks if they broke up.  Lety says no, Lucia had an accident.  Rod is all ears.

Marcelo gets a call from Naz, you need to come right away.  It's Lucia.   She's fine but it's about Alonso.  He had another heart attack and there's nothing that can be done.   Marcelo says he'll go right away.   Naz is heartbroken and asks GOD why.

Ric gives Whinenela the  411 on his youthful indiscretions and the results.  He had no idea.  Whiney asks if he really didn't know about his daughter.  Ric says no, he and his daughter were both kept in the dark by the mother.  Her name is Leticia.  He wasn't even notified If he was in agreement with the name or not.  Whiney wonders if Ric has tried with Lety and he assures her he has but Lety isn't interested in it.  Ric points to what Whiney just witnessed as an example.  Whiney gives Ric some unsolicited advice;  he has to fight for his daughter, don't push Lety aside the way her father did with her.   A young woman needs her father.   Ric says it's impossible, Dani has no idea the type of woman Lety's mother is and she won't let them have a relationship.   Ric doesn't know how he could have ever been involved with Sara.   Dani tells him he has to go over her or anyone for his daughter, unless he's heartless and doesn’t care.   She yanks her hand away and Ric ponders it or maybe not, because all he does is reach for his skewer to dip a marshmallow into the chocolate fondue.  Meanwhile upstairs a man (Dani's father?) watches the two of them.

Sara is at the nurses station giving instructions to a nurse regarding a patient when she gets the call from Naz.  The news is a crushing blow to her and she stifles her sobs as she scurries as quickly as she can down the hall past patients and staff to a quiet and darkened corner of a waiting area;  where she finally releases her grief.  Al, the man she was in love with and who was committed to start a future with her, was now gone. Sara is still the girl who doesn't get the guy.

As the sirens wail, Naz greets Marcelo at the gate.  His grief is evident and he tells Marcelo this can't be happening.  Marcelo says he knows how much Al meant to him.  Naz says he was like a son to him.  Marcelo asks about Lucia and Naz says she's with Al in his office, right where they found him.  She's destroyed and he doesn't know how to comfort her.  Marcelo says it terrible, it's a loss for her and for Nora and for everyone.   As they go in to the house Marcelo suddenly asks about Rebecca.  Naz says he has no idea where she is.   However she is only across the street in her car, watching the results of her latest handiwork waiting for the perfect moment to make her entrance on stage.

Inside the house, Marcelo comes upon Lucia sitting on the floor cradling her father's body.  He gives her his condolences and attempts to hug her, when he feels her body stiffen and recoil from his touch.  I told you not to say anything to my father. I asked you many times. My dad is dead because of you.  It's a slap in the face to Marcelo and his eyes sting with tears.  Naz tells Lucia not to say that, it's not Marcelo's fault.  Lucia begins to sob,  she knew her father's heart couldn't take this, she knew this would happen.  She tells Naz her father is dead and this shouldn't have happened.  Marcelo attempts again to console her, but she rejects him again.  Marcelo hurt and most likely filled with his own guilt leaves her to her grief and wanders out into the living room.  The sound of Rebecca's foot fall is heard before she crosses into Marcelo's sight.  She has pulled herself together, her hair is tidy, the classic red lips in place.  She is ready for the performance of her life.   Don't you think it's a little late for you to be here?  What happened between you and your husband? He counters.  What are you talking about?  Marcelo tells her everything that went down earlier between him and Al.  The dirty that his wife is, the blood on her hands and Marcelo is certain that after all that she and Al had a very serious discussion.   Rebecca has the appropriate, shocked face, her bosom heaves with the appropriate measure of fear.  She tells Marcelo she hasn't talked with Al all day and the only thing they discussed that morning was Nora.    Marcelo grips her arm and says he doesn't believe her.  Let me go!  Rebecca begins to drop her alibi.  I haven't seen Alonso all day, I haven't been here.  I had many things to do and I even saw your mother at the church, you can even call her to verify it.   Marcelo backs off, knowing that what his mother had told him was true.   I don't know where all of this interrogation is coming from.   Marcelo says the words she needs to begin the performance she's been waiting for all night.   Your husband..is dead.    Rebecca begins , her eyes widening in shock then the tears. What are you saying?  Marcelo tells her he's in his office.  She runs and greets her second audience,  Naz and Lucia.  Her performance is pitch perfect as she flings herself on to the ground along side her husband. Crying and wailing.  It cant be,  my love..my love. It can't be. Why? She drapes herself over him, her head to his chest a fresh flood of tears.   What happened?  Naz tells her they think it was his heart.  She turns to Lucia and plays the victim asking why no one notified her.  Why is she the last to know? Whether she likes it or not she is still his wife.  Lucia sits still lost in her own grief and it's Naz who tells Rebecca they just found out themselves.  They got home from the hospital and they found him just like this.   Rebecca asks if Nora knows and Lucia says yes, she think she's in her room.  Rebecca says she will go to her and on her way out asks Naz if he will handle everything.  Naz suggests to Lucia that she go outside with Marcelo but she prefers to stay right there with her father. Rebecca exits this stage.  She is on to the next audience.

Rebecca finds Nora alone and laying on the floor of her room.  She goes to her daughter and tries to comfort her but Nora yanks away each time.   Sweetheart please don't be like this.  Nora only wants to know why her father wanted to talk to her.  Rebecca plays dumb, but Nora says her father said he needed to talk to you, why weren't you here?   Rebecca says she had to go out.  Nora says he needed you . He said that things were going to change, what was he talking about?  Rebecca insists she doesn't know and she's just as surprised as Nora but she has to understand that it hurts her too; and even if he didn't love her, Al was the love of her life.  Nora allows her grief to come and to receive her mother's consoling.  For Rebecca it is an opportunity to make a last pitch for them to be united and together in all of this.  The show is over for tonight.

In Cancun,  Mario is the one who must break the news to Magda who has been enjoying a long luxurious bath.  He tells her Naz called and wanted to speak to her but she was in the bath.  And?  It has to do with Alonso, he had another heart attack and he died.  Magda is at first shocked and then distraught and begs Mario to tell her that it's not true.  He tells her he knows how much Al meant to her.   Magda says she knew tht something was going to happen, she told him she felt it.  Mario says how were they to know this was going to happen?  Magda wants to leave back to Puebla, right now..this minute. She has to be with Lucia and with Al.  Mario tries to get her to see reason, they can't leave this minute but first thing in the morning they will get the first flight out.

Naz tells Marcelo that he know he's hurting, but not to take what Lucia said seriously. It's her grief talking.  Marcelo says he knows that Al spoke to his wife before he died. She swears they didn't, but Marcelo can't get it out of his head that they did.  It had to be the reason why this happened.  Naz tells him not to complicate things more, they will deal with that in its own time.  In the meantime Marcelo should go home and he will let him know when the funeral is.  Marcelo asks him to notify him of any thing. Marcelo takes his grief and leaves.   He encounters Sara at the gate.  Is it true?  Yes.  A small sob escapes and is quickly stifled as she asks Marcelo where he's going.  In these  moments Lucia needs to be alone and I disturb her.    Inside Naz greets Sara and tells her where she can find Al, but she's bitch blocked by Rebecca who tells her to even think about it.  Naz tells her that someone needs to give the cause of death certification.  Well I don't want that woman in this house.  Naz tries again, stating that Sara as someone close to Al.   Rebecca asserts that she was Al's wife and the final say is hers.  She tells Sara to do her the favor of leaving her house and don't even try to go to the funeral or the burial.  Naz tries to reason telling Rebecca she's gong to extremes, but Sara says no, Rebecca is right.  She's Al's widow and she has a right to have things the way she wants.  Sara leaves and Naz bites his tongue but gives Rebecca his cat eyed steely gaze.

Rod begs his buddy Sergio to call Lucia's house to find out how she is.  If he calls they won't tell him anything.  Sergio says and dude, if I call they won't tell me either.  Besides it's almost two in the morning.  Lety said she was okay and she was released from the hospital, that means everything turned out fine.  Rod says he wants to hear it from Lucia.  Sergio says he doesn't want to be uncool wit his bud, but he's pretty sure that the last person Lucia wants to talk with right now is Rod.  So let's change the subject, how did it go with Lety? Where did you go?  Rod is like whaaat?  Okay well we went to the movies, but we never went in because we ran into Lety's father with Ligia's cousin and Lety went crazy!  Sergio says the same cousin that talked to the police about you? The same dude, answer Rod bitterly.  He asks Sergio if he knew about Lety's father.  Yeah, his name is Ricardo Marquez and you should know him because he's a friend of your father's and also an attorney.  Rod says the name is familiar but he doesn't know him, but isn't the world small?   Sergio thinks it's odd that Ligia's cousin would be with Lety's father.  He's twice her age right?  Rod says yeah,  probably similar to the age difference between his father and Ligia.

Whinenelia sleeps as Ric sits in a chair watching his new wallet. It finally wakes up.   Are you thinking about your daughter?  Among many things.  Like what? Because if they're keeping you it means they are important.  Ric says the future.  Which means? Ric says he came back to Pueble for a project but it fell through.  Whinenelia thought as attorney he had many clients.  He says he does but not sufficient enough and he's not someone who can be content with just anything.  So what are you thinking about doing?  I don't know but I have to make a move now.

Sara goes home and heads to the solace and privacy of her bedroom where she begins to sob uncontrollably.   Lety hears her mother's wails, no..no..no!  Why God why?    She goes into her mother's room and asks her what's wrong as Sara continues to cry.  He died…he died.  Who?  Alonso Sara sobs.  Lety is clearly shocked and asks what happened.  Sara manages to tell Lety that it appeared to be a heart attack but she couldn't confirm it because Rebecca didn't let her near him and ran her out of the house.  Lety is sympathetic to her mother for once, realizing the pain this must have caused.  Lety asks about her gal pal Lucia, should she go be with her?  Sara says no, not now it's late and she doesn't want Rebecca to humiliate her too.  Sara breaks down again and tells her daughter to stay, she needs her now.  Her mother's pain moves Lety to tears.

Al is zipped into a body bag, as Rebecca now dressed in her appropriate black watches from the door way.   Lucia comes and Naz tells her that they're taking her father.  She unzips him and begs her godfather to ask them not to take her father away.  Naz explains they have to, and that in a little while they'll be together with him again.   Lucia begs them again not to take her father and she tells Al again how much she loves him.  Rebecca manages a few tears for the love of her life but it's Lucia's painful and gut wrenching sobs that are heard through the house again as they take Al away.  EP is doing a stellar job. This girl has me in tears.

The next morning Sergio comes bounding down the stairs and tells Rod who is pouring coffee, that he has to go to the airport to pick up his boss and wife.  They're already back from the honeymoon?  They had to come back early, Lucia's father died.  Rod is shocked.  What?

Ding- Ding!  A barely recognizable Normita runs to the door sans her librarian glasses and tight chignon. She's clad instead in her jammies when she opens the door to a very dapper looking Naz in a gray suit.  She's shocked when he asks if he can come in.  She's not dressed she says and she 's embarrassed.  Naz says it doesn't matter, if he came early on a Sunday it's because he has very bad news and he couldn't do it over the phone.  Normita says he's scaring her, but lets  him in.

So Al died? Are you sure?  Amadiva asks Brigi who is just shocked.  She can't believe it either.  Amador wants detail, what else did Rod say. What caused it?  I don't know, he didn't give me any details.  Brigi tells him in true gossip girl fashion, that Rod found out from Sergio who found out from his boss who just married Magdalena Murillo.  So it's not gossip, it's information that is from a reliable source.    Amadiva couldn't have asked for a better gift.  Oh my God.. What wonderful news.    Brigi can't believe he would says something like that.  Al was his friend of many years and was almost Rod's father-in-law.   Aaah yes, yes..but do you realize with Al dead everything changes.  Absolutely everything! Brigi has no idea what he's talking about.  Amadiva breaks it down to her.   There's no partnership to dissolve so I'm back at the Fabrica baby and this time..for good.  I swear that no one will get me out of there.  Brigida is still Brigi-duh.   Amadiva clears it up further.  From this moment on, I will be the only owner of my dear friend Alonso Gaxiola's business.  May he rest in peace.  BAM! Ama-diva just dropped the mic.

Both Yeonsangun and Gil-dong are plagued with nightmares, but the causes behind their respective restless nights are vastly different. The king fears Gil-dong’s return and replays Gil-dong’s last words to him over in his dreams. He wakes up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat, and Eunuch Kim rushes over to him with a worried expression.

Yeonsangun tells him his theory that Gil-dong must be an illegitimate nobleman’s child or a long-lost royal cousin, because there’s no way a plebeian could have that much confidence facing a divine being such as himself. When Eunuch Kim protests, saying that Gil-dong even professed that he was a commoner with no special bloodlines or family ties to speak of, Yeonsangun is convinced that since Gil-dong is a thief, he’s a liar as well, and he must have deceived everyone about his ancestry.

Whereas, in Gil-dong’s nightmares, he is haunted by the suffering of the people that are rotting away in Yeonsangun’s packed cells—bloodied, bruised, and without hope. So he resolves to save them, and the following day, he gathers up all of the people in the cave hideout to recruit volunteers.

Gil-dong announces that while they have no power over the weather or mother nature, they do have the power to bring down the king. Then, he brings up his plan to steal the citizens in prison from Yeonsangun’s cells. He asks for recruits because he needs all the help he can get to rescue so many people.

However, the people can’t follow his mindset—they say that they only followed Hong Hero because they needed the food and shelter in order to survive. They didn’t come there necessarily because they wanted to defend justice and go against the king. But a courageous woman stands apart from the crowd and says that although she doesn’t know how to fight, she’ll help Gil-dong in any way she can, and some other brave souls follow her example.

But it seems like most able-bodied men don’t agree with Gil-dong’s plans—they followed him because they wanted to live, not because they wanted to die. So, in huddled corners, they think about betraying Gil-dong to the king because that would ensure their survival. Yonggae overhears their conversations and reports back to Gil-dong about the fear that these people have. Gil-dong looks troubled after hearing this news, but then the shamaness appears at the Hong brothers’ strategic planning table.

She gives them a new insight into the state of the people’s mindset: They’ve lived oppressed all their lives and don’t know the taste of freedom and success. So, she suggests that each of the Hong brothers tell their individual stories of outwitting the corrupt system, fighting for justice, and of how following Gil-dong has been liberating for them.

After being told these stories, the people who were initially so against Gil-dong’s people-napping plan earlier come back to him to ask whether he really has confidence in his success. His face breaks out into a grin, and he says yes. And so, they also say that they want to join the effort.

But instead of telling them to be a part of the actual operational force to infiltrate the palace, he asks them to stay in the hideout to protect the people, and the men seem immensely pleased. It’s not as high-risk as being captured at the palace, and it still gives them a sense of purpose as part of the overall effort. Then Eop-san and Keutsae enter with a whole cadre of old Hong family brothers from Ikhwari, who are here to help with Operation: Steal the People. They all reunite in happiness.

Back at the palace, the officials talk amongst themselves, fearing the king’s retribution. They try to think of ways to avoid his wrath because it seems that people’s necks have been severed just based on the whims of the king. Having heard from others that Scholar Song has the king’s ear, the highest officials in the land ask Gil-hyun to introduce them to him so that they may grovel for his goodwill, and by extension worm their way into the king’s good graces.

As per their request, Gil-hyun leads them to a meeting with Scholar Song. Gil-hyun’s mentor half-gloats at how the tables have turned. He refers to his former fall from glory and continues by saying that he thought that all the court officials hated him. But at the end of his speech, he adds that perhaps the men gathered here don’t hate him, because everyone who openly showed dislike of him died under the king’s orders. The scholars nod eagerly at Scholar Song’s words and try to please him the best they can.

Gil-hyun reflects in his secret correspondence to Gil-dong that he’s disappointed in the self-serving attitude of the court officials, who are supposed to be the moral pillars of Joseon. He thinks that they may not be able to consider the Joseon people because these officials have spent their entire lives secluded from the realities of life, first because they needed to study for the civil servant exams, and afterward because they’ve lived lives of privilege near the palace. So they only know the selfish desire to preserve their own skins, he claims.

He says that now, no official goes against the king’s will to offer their own opinions. Seeing this happen, he realized that Yeonsangun wasn’t acting in an impulsive manner when he started his reign of violence. Instead, he’s deduced that this is a cold calculative move by the king to consolidate his own power. His purpose was to shift the balance of power so that it would be heavily skewed toward the reigning monarch.

Later, Gil-hyun and Scholar Song sit together, and Scholar Song says that their relationship is analogous to his and the king: without any secrets. But of course, Gil-hyun thinks otherwise, especially since he knows that Yeonsangun is keeping Gil-dong’s escape a secret from Scholar Song.

Meanwhile in the palace, the king is in a good mood and declares that he wants to host a banquet of renewed peace. Breathing a sigh of relief after all the bloodshed, the scholars finally feel somewhat reassured, and they feel that going to Scholar Song was what made the difference.

Incognito, Gil-hyun meets with Gil-dong and tells him that this banquet is the opportunity that he was waiting for, since it’s the perfect chance to infiltrate the palace. Gil-hyun hands over a blueprint of the palatial grounds, saying that while he can let Gil-dong and the others in, they’ll have to figure out their own way from there on.

Starting on phase one of their plan, Gil-dong and his crew of experienced thieves begin raiding armories for weapons and teaching the people in the caves the proper maneuvers in combat skills, each according to his specialty. Although the people have never used these weapons before because they’ve never had to, it’s clear that they begin to feel empowered as they learn how.

In Ga-ryung’s voiceover, she says: “In prison, people who were torn apart from their children and their homes languished, thinking they were going to die, not knowing that far away, Gil-dong and his seven merry men were preparing to rescue them. But even as he was readying his forces, Gil-dong would lose sleep every night, worrying that more people would die before he could get to them. Whenever he had time, he’d pray in his heart that they would stay alive until he could rescue them.”

In the palace and unbeknownst to her, Gil-hyun sees Eorini from afar with tears in his eyes. He vows that they’ll be there soon as he silently pleads to her to wait until they can come for her.

Jeong-hak, who suspects Gil-hyun, visits Park Ha-sung’s family home. He sees an empty house with three graves in the yard, but one has an unknown name. He reports back to Scholar Song what he found and claims that it’s highly suspicious.

Scholar Song thinks Jeong-hak is just being petty and jealous about Park Ha-sung and the king’s close relationship. But when Park Ha-sung brings up Gil-hyun’s strange desire to save Gil-dong and the fact that despite the criminal’s death, the king hasn’t paraded his decapitated head around like the heads of all the other traitors to the nation, Scholar Song’s mind begins to change.

During his audience with the king, Scholar Song sneaks in a question about why Yeonsangun didn’t publicly display Gil-dong’s death, and Yeonsangun gives a noncommittal reply about how he didn’t feel like it. That’s when Scholar Song realizes that the king has been keeping secrets from him.

Meanwhile, Choongwongoon is still bitter that Scholar Song is taking all the credit for their coordinated efforts to bring down Gil-dong. He tries to tempt Mistress Jo with ideas of Jeong-hak’s potential rise to the highest levels of government if Scholar Song was out of the picture, and successfully plants a seed of rebellion against the old mentor in her.

Afterward, Choongwongoon talks with Mori to reinforce that he must do everything the king says. Mori tries to bring up the fact that he’s seen Gil-dong since his purported death, but he ends up remaining silent about the matter.

In the palace, the apprentice musician girls practice under Wolhamae’s careful watch for the king’s upcoming banquet performance. She emphasizes that they must never cry or appear dirty in front of the king.

Behind her, Nok-soo tells Ga-ryung that she should heed Wolhamae’s words as well, because the palace is not like the gibang they were in together before. When they sit down to have tea together, Nok-soo remarks that Ga-ryung has changed, and for the first time, she brings up the topic of Gil-dong.

Carefully, Ga-ryung asks if Nok-soo regrets leaving Gil-dong for the palace, but she replies that she thinks it’s the best thing she’s ever done. She chose the man who could give her the most security, but sometimes she does still wonder what a life would be with a man who truly cared for her. When Ga-ryung says that she has the king for that, Nok-soo states sadly but matter-of-factly that the king doesn’t understand what it is to love.

Later on, Yeonsangun and Nok-soo sit on a dais while Wolhamae parades a talent show of the apprentice girls in front of him to receive his judgement on their skills. Sang-hwa, with her quick energetic movements, is given a positive review, as is Ok-ran for the clear fluid lines in her dancing. Yeonsangun smiles in approval and shows that he is pleased with them both.

Then he singles out Ga-ryung to also perform, but when she comes in front of him, she truthfully tells him that she knows no other song than the one she sang in the forest during their first meeting. However, she tells him, she has one ability: to tell stories. He’s amused and says that he’ll call for her the next time he’s having trouble falling asleep.

Following that occurrence, Sang-hwa confronts Ga-ryung because she thinks that Ga-ryung is being manipulative by telling the king that she can tell stories. She thinks it’s a calculated attempt by Ga-ryung to get into the king’s bed, and she resents that Ga-ryung has it so easy while she had to labor for hours under Nok-soo to even rise to the king’s attention. Ga-ryung grabs her wrist and warns Sang-hwa not to bother her efforts to get close to the king, and the animosity between them is palpable.

At his house, Scholar Song receives information from his spy that Nok-soo had a pointed interest in Gil-dong when he was in the palace cells, and it puts him in a contemplative mood. He wonders what the gisaeng-concubine might have had to do with the People’s Thief.

At night, Yeonsangun still experiences nightmares, but instead of having Nok-soo come to him, he asks for Ga-ryung. In their dorms, the apprentice girls are gossiping about their day. Ga-ryung admits that she did have a little tiff with Sang-hwa, and she looks a bit sad that the girl doesn’t seem to like her.

However, she learns from Ok-ran that Sang-hwa isn’t a bad person, she’s just very loyal to her adoptive mother and wants to rise quickly in the ranks in order to make their family’s station in life better. Ok-ran, similarly, is also an orphan, having been separated from her brothers a long time ago. Before she can inquire further, Ga-ryung is whisked away by Eunuch Kim.

Eunuch Kim takes her aside and asks Ga-ryung to tell Yeonsangun a heartwarming story that will melt the king’s inner anger away. Although she is in the palace for her personal revenge, Ga-ryung looks touched as she sees the genuine care that Eunuch Kim has for the king.

In the royal bedchambers, she begins her storytelling with animated motions and expressions, and the king listens intently in return. The next morning, Yeonsangun awakes with a sense of wonder that he was able to sleep through the night. He smiles to himself as he remarks to Eunuch Kim that he can’t believe Ga-ryung’s story was so boring that he was able to sleep the entire night.

Sang-hwa reports to Nok-soo that Ga-ryung was by the king’s side the entire night, and Sang-hwa shows her displeasure because she thinks it should have been Nok-soo by Yeonsangun’s side. Nok-soo puts on a forced smile, saying that there has to be nights like these as well. But later, her actions are indicative of her real feelings. When she sees Ga-ryung laughing with the other girls who have flocked to her side after learning that she’s become the king’s favorite, she calls Ga-ryung aside to ask about her loyalties: Will she put Nok-soo first, or herself?

She looks a bit shaken, but Ga-ryung carries on with her day. As she’s hurrying to a musician troupe meeting, Ga-ryung picks up a purple ribbon—it’s the same one that Gil-dong had that tied him to Eorini. Ok-ran takes it from her hand, causing Ga-ryung to make the instant connection that Ok-ran is Gil-dong’s sister.

As all the apprentices are being inspected by Nok-soo, Ga-ryung only has eyes for Ok-ran, so happy to have finally found her lost sister-in-law. But Ok-ran makes a huge misstep that causes Nok-soo to trip and have her hair ornaments displaced. As a result, Ok-ran is whipped by Nok-soo’s own hand until Ga-ryung comes to her defense. But that only increases Nok-soo’s ire, and Ok-ran is taken away to prison.

Nok-soo demands another apprentice girl to accompany her to serve the king. She tells Yeonsangun that she sent a girl to prison for stepping on her skirts, and the king says that she did well in doing so. When she asks what final punishment she should give Ok-ran, the scene cuts to an announcement that the accompanying girl makes.

Nok-soo made her tag along as a witness, and the girl tells the rest of the apprentices that they should not presume to even think that they’re on the same level as the higher-level master musicians. And, she adds, they will be punished with consequences like death if they dare to do so.

Ga-ryung pleads with Nok-soo to be lenient toward Ok-ran, but the older woman just challenges her to try and stop her by using her own influence with the king. The other person who’s upset with the Ok-ran situation, Sang-hwa, cries as she looks at her closest friend in prison from afar. She says that she’ll try to save her and already has a plan in mind.

Park Ha-sung reports to the king that the scholars are preparing to answer Yeonsangun’s writing prompt with joy in order to put the king in a good mood. Then, he asks that he be put in charge of inspecting the outside workmen who will enter the palace on the day of the banquet, and Yeonsangun readily agrees.

Later, Gil-hyun hands over the scheduling details for the banquet to Gil-dong, giving him instructions on how to enter the palace without notice. The cave people tell the Hong brothers goodbye with well wishes regarding their mission.

Back at the prison, Ga-ryung brings Ok-ran some porridge, despite the possible danger to her own person. When Ok-ran asks why she’s risking so much to do so, Ga-ryung tells her about the purple ribbon, which was her husband’s. But in the middle of her explanation, Ok-ran interrupts and tells her that the ribbon is actually Sang-hwa’s, and Ga-ryung is completely taken aback.

Yes, finally! We know that Sang-hwa is Eorini, the secret Geo-in loyal to the Sugwidan who has been dispatched as a spy in the palace. She reports to Scholar Song that she knows that Gil-dong is alive from Nok-soo’s unconscious word slip-ups. She then starts to bring up that she needs a favor (possibly regarding Ok-ran’s situation).

On the day of the banquet, Gil-dong and his crew successfully pass through the palace gates with Gil-hyun giving all of them a pass. Yeonsangun is outfitted in fiercely regal red fur-lined attire, while the courtiers read praises about his works and pray for his healthful longevity.

He’s pleased with everything so far, when suddenly seven silhouettes wearing capes and masks appear on the rooftop (it’s kind of cheesy to the max because of the totally copycat Batman-esque costumes). Gil-dong announces his presence in a loud shout and calls the king by his given name, Yi Yung. Grenades explode all around Yeonsangun, and Gil-dong leaps from the rooftop, coming straight at him.
