FRIDAY ON TIMELESS LOVE - EPISODE 89

The happy family group at Consta’s table eat breakfast with Mat and Adriana teasing Renata for her sudden motivation she claims she is always energetic but she is both excited and so nervous. Renata is all atingle to see Jero later today hoping this will be a good decision. Jero in a split screen reciprocates with hopes that they have a chance.

Tingle is hardly what Honorio feels crawling up the back of his neck when he is arrested in front of his office while the evil Blanca watches with a slimy leer as they stuff Hon in a squad car arrested for fraud at her alter ego Monique’s behest.

Kari clings to her good wife role while discussing with Padre that she isn’t going to divorce. He wants her to know he cares for her and doesn’t want her to suffer more. Just who is detained or incarcerated here.

Alfonsina talks to Doc Marina about getting the proof of the DNA so she doesn’t have to live with this unbearable uncertainty. Marina advises her to go ask Dr. Nesme in person, although they could force him with a court order, it is much better to get him to do it voluntarily. Obviously, Dr. Marina has had little experience with that sector of the medical profession that specializes in selling snake oil.

Hon calls Gonzo from jail warning him he has been arrested, Blanca was on the corner watching it happen and now Adriana, Consta and Renata are in danger.

Gonzo calls Soto to come immediately so they can go to the police station with not one word to anybody.

Iguana-eyed Antonio and cobra-eyed Fina talk strategy in a restaurant. Antonio observes that Gonzo and Regina will probably marry very quickly after the divorce. Fina confirms that they certainly are not going to let this happen. Several times he insists that Regina is not to be hurt in the process. And butter wouldn’t melt in Fina’s mouth. Who me be a danger to Regina to revenge myself? If I can detect a bit of emotion in Antonio’s unblinking eyes, it is a shred of fear that he is in WAY over his head in this alliance forged in hellfire.

Consta gets the message that Hon is in jail. Adriana immediately knows Blanca is behind this. She wants to go to the station too but Consta says she can’t go nor stay alonem and the maid is gone. So Adri suggests the Chema could come to be with her. As he said he would. Consta is reluctant but Adri points out this is the only other option. Consta makes the call.

At the police station Gonzo and Soto discuss the seriousness of Hon’s case. (I don’t quite get what proof from a fictitious person would get someone in the slammer this quicly but my beanie needs new aluminum foil to enhance transmissions.) Soto thinks this will take a lot of work to prove Honorio’s innocence but he adds the next victim to be arrested will be Renata.

Renata comes into the EM office with Matias so happy. They tease and laugh, she is in such a good mood which you better enjoy since it isn’t going to last the whole capitulo. Matias is alarmed to know that neither Gonzo nor Hon are in the office and there is a big meeting expected. He tells the receptionist to alert him as soon as his father arrives.

Gonzo calls Mat to tell him to come to the station and orders him not to tell Renata. They must assume Renata is next come. Augie comes into the already busy police station saying he came as soon as he could. Gonzo thanks him for coming so quickly to help him with this problem.

Chema comes quickly to help Consta with her problem to take care of Adri. Adri knows her father is innocent but is so afraid. Chema is patient and sympathetic even if a bit disappointed at first.

Augie will do anything to get Renata away and he would give his life for her. Gonzo trusts him for this reason asking for his complete discretion.

Renata has the wiggles and cannot concentrate on her work. She starts to call Jero but tells her self to concentrate.

At the Jewelry store Regina and Jero look at two R necklaces. Which one would she prefer he asks. She will prefer this demonstration that she can regain confidence and trust in you. Jero remembers that Rafa had an R necklace in his things. Regina remembers that Roberto gave her and her daughter R’s necklaces and Jero remembers that Gonzo says Gonzo gave R’s to Renata and Roberta too. What a strange a coincidence thinks Regina. Jero smiles more than we have ever seen, He adores Renata. She is the one he wants to spend the rest of his life with.

The secretary comes in with coffee telling Renata it is 2:30, she rushes off after checking with the secretary on how does she looks. (Beautiful as usual but still dressed like a college freshman for some unfathomable reason.)

Back at his apartment Jero comes in with 60 roses and bags of great looking food, Cheese and lettuce and many candles and important looking wine. What a nice set up and then he drapes the R necklaces in various places.

Gonzo drives into the EM garage in a black Jaguar S type (my all time favorite car, mine was silver, hmmm, but I digress). He hysterically urges Renata to get in the car with him without asking questions. She has to disappear because they already have arrested Honorio because of Blanca’s plots and she is in danger of being thrown in jail next.

She balks insisting she has a date that she doesn’t want and can’t fail to show up. He says she isn’t listening this is not negotiable. She has to get to safety and no one can know where she is. Her destiny is being changed at this moment. He demands she give him her cell phone it may be traced.

Jero adjusts his tie, the candles, the food, paces, puts on his jacket, the R’s are in the shape of a heart. He mutters to himself. (This makes me sad to watch.) He says, after this dinner you won’t be able to leave my side. She has to be convinced to come back.

Renata is saying to hyper-Papa, before you change my destiny loan me your cell phone. Yes your destiny is being changed and it can’t be helped. No I can’t, you could be traced and we can’t risk it.

Consta comes in to ask Soto when can she see Hon he thinks she can get in for at least 5 minutes. Mati arrives saying, but where is my father. Soto says, he is off taking care of another problem related to this same matter. Con and Mat console hug. Mat gives the obvious explanation: Blanca is completely crazy (BSC to you texters and tweeters)

Adri is worried about not being able to get through to Renata. Chema reasons that she has had to turn it off in the Station. But it has been so long worries Adri.

Chema says, I know I‘ll make a great dessert and it will make it all better but not with that face. The worried Adri breaks into a smile, He says really he isn’t trying to trivialize the danger her father is in. But the angst you are having won’t do anything to help your recuperation. Then she says, it’s a deal if you will teach me how to make the dessert I don’t know how to cook well. He hefts Adri over his shoulder to carry her to the kitchen. We hope not breaking anything more

Jero paces and calls Renata’s cell. He hopes she hasn’t had second thoughts. Finally Jero calls Renata’s office to learn that she left hours ago and didn’t give any clue of where she was going. Jero drinks more wine and jumps to get the door for any bell in the hall way that goes off. He says tranquilo a whole bunch and counsels himself not to think the worst. (Yes Jero suit club, he is in that navy blue with the baby blue tie, its’s our only consolation at the moment.)

Cata is drinking coffee with Inez and thanks for her asking her to come to eat. Inez tells her she can come live there. She is pleased for the thoughtful invitation but she declines and Inez says but you are like part of the family. She thinks she will be better in that place for senior citizens. You are saying that because of Regina, right? Yes, Cata cries. Inez says, why don’t you try to understand Regina? Cata says, she does understand her but she cannot support what she has chosen to do. She thought she would be a great lady but she (Regina) is choosing differently and she (Cata) cannot compromise her feelings. (This woman doesn’t need a skilled nursing facility but she does need to have her head examined.)

Regina at her dressing table in golden light has a flash back of Roberto presenting the R for his princess, baby Regina on her birthday and then giving Regina one too with his love. They hug and all is happy. Back at the present a wistful Regina says, here’s another coincidence, Gonzolo

Renata and Gonzo drive into an airplane hangar and he explains that she has to be hidden while they get the Blanca problem worked on. Augie comes out of the plane with such a swagger. She can’t figure out whey she should flee when she has done nothing wrong. Augie assures them both, he has everything under control . Renata looks like she is being controlled.

Roberta walks into the hotel to find out Augustin has checked out of the hotel several hours ago and paid his bill. She leaves him an irritated message that she isn’t some Selene that he can treat this way without at least advising her that he was leaving. She finishes with her famous, Stupido.

Gonzo assures Renata of his love and continues to insist that he has to protect her and is sorry this has to be done this way. She will miss him, she says as she climbs the plane stairs like she is walking the plank at sea. She asks that he be in contact with Augie to bring her news of the outcome of the case and of the family and please will he tell Consta she is sorry she isn’t with her and Hon etc. that she is okay. He agrees of course.

Back to the Baja jail, Nesme comes in to the visiting room and greets Alfonsina slimily, I knew you couldn’t live without me. If you come for a conjugal visit we could both enjoy it so much. She pushes his slimy hand off her knee saying, don’t touch me you make me sick. Then why did you come? I want to ask you to take a DNA test. He says, you just want to know if I am the father of the baby. But of course I am. I don’t need to prove anything but if you will come for a conjugal visit I will give you the DNA test. That is the exchange; nothing is for free. She is so slimed and disgusted she leaves saying she never wants to have to see him again. (So much for Marina’s brilliant ideas. We could have predicted that one. )

Matilde asks Kari why don’t you want to (or does she say, why don’t you love him.) She holds to her misery as church sanctioned and Matilde (and I) don’t understand it or agree with it. Lazaro looks on through the door crack. She has been miserable for years but if she goes off to enjoy herself now it will have made her years of miserable marriage a lie She will stay in this any way until death do us part.

Marina comes up to Ponchito at an outdoor table and asks how is it going, are you happy? He says not really happy. They don’t talk to each other. When one is in the room and then the other comes in someone leaves. Marina tries to tell him that perhaps he knows that when you do something that you don’t want to just for someone else it doesn’t work the way you hoped. Maybe it would be better to let the parents be themselves, apart but more at peace. He hopes with the new baby coming it will all be like the happy family life he misses. Marina’s expression says she realizes she isn’t the best psychologist ever.

Ezekiel and Lazaro rush in to Carlos in the office to announce that there is a possible plague. The plants are pale over at Augie’s and it could possibly be from over watering but if it is plague on the vines there is a big disaster coming. That is why Ezek came to tell Carlos himself. Carlos wants Alfonsina so they can test all of La Bonita’s vines.

Jero comes to Consta’s door and greets Chema who recognizes him as Renata’s husband. He calls for Adri. She glides in in her wheelchair and agrees we can’t get in touch with Renata either but probably she is with everybody else at the station. At his confusion she recognizes, Oh you don’t know, Honorio was arrested.

Augie cajoles Renata who is deep in thought on the plane. They discuss why she had to flee the scene and possible arrest. He says, I know it all looks black. She finally tells know I’m not talking about my father, but about Jero we had a meeting to reconcile and she feels so bad. He jumps on that. She will commit the same error as ever to believe in Jero. More urbane than Nesme, Augie warms to his task. He is sure that Jero has planned her destiny, a future where she has no opinion or options. (Oh really.)

Consta and Hon grip hands through the jail cell bars. Hon wants her to promise that she and Adri won’t come to the jail to see him. He imagines that Adriana is so disappointed by him. Consta expresses with many tears that it was all a trap and he is innocent. She cries, he kisses, they cling to each other. (Chema is toast.)

Chem and Adri have fun watching bad women in a movie and talk about the really bad women she knows who are worse, Fina and Roberta. He agrees that he is sure that Fina or Roberta took pictures of him with Consta and sent them to Honorio. They discuss if someone has been plotting to cause all the couple problems including making Chema and Consta seem to be an item.

Alfonsina gets back and Carlos briefs her on the plague threat. She says it is very hard to identify it early but she will do everything she can. She goes off to check the vineyard.

Jero show up at he station and Gonzo and Matias jump him. (Well almost.) He must ta;k with Renata, she didn’t show up for their date. Gonzo dourly assures him, she isn’t in the city she has gone off to think, contemplate her options and feelings, etc. and you are not to get in touch with her.

The scene ends at the Augie palace. Renata walks in looking like a forced march and Augie welcomes her to the hacienda again. She doesn’t look pleased.

Next episode: The plot sickens to keep Renata and Jero from seeing if they could reconcile. Augie has found allies in Gonzo and Matias. Not so sure are Regina and Jero. The teams are being chosen. Ezekiel grins that Augie will make Renata his woman soon. The divorce express papers arrive at Jero’s door.

Al tells Rebecca he'd love for sNora to go live with him
Sara goes to see the hospital archive clerk about Adriana's admittance dates.
Mili calls Marcelo about a supposedly missing Dani

Detective J puts the squeeze on SlicRic,  what did you do to this woman to make her so angry, why does she want us to lock you up?  Me? What did I do?   I'm the one who should want that woman locked up in jail until she rots.  Detective  J asks why and Ric proceeds to flex his wrecked pec.  This!  Mrs. Gaxiola came last night and tried to slice and dice me!   Why did she do that?  What can I tell you?  Because she's crazy!  Detective J tells Ric that's a comfortable answer, if she really did it then why not come down to the department and file a complaint against Rebecca.  Ric says yeah, yeah, I'll go take care of it.   Detective J, then turns to Daniela who is all sorts of W.T.F is going on here, and says some woman named Milagros Fuentes came to his office looking for her.  Really?  Uh-huh.. I guess she's mumsy-in-law or something.   Detective J is not to happy that Dani lied to Mili about where she supposedly was; and the lie that a person had been arrested in Ligia's murder.  He tells Whine-nelia not to use him or his department in her lies.  After they leave Whiney attackes Rick's hiney about lying to her.   You owe me an explanation!  What do you mean Rebecca Murillo attacked you with a knife?   Oh Ric..you might want to put all the cutlery away.

Back at Mili's she tells Marcelo that Detective J, had no idea what she was talking about and it's obvious that Daniela lied to her she has no idea why.  Marcelo says it clear to him, she didn't tell Mili to avoid a problem.  Well there is already a problem and she's going to hear from me when she gets here!  Mili is pressed and Marcelo gives her a newsflash;  Dani is an adult woman and she doesn't need to inform Mili where she's going or who with.  Mili says maybe not but she feels responsible for her.  Her mother has long since passed and her father doesn't pay any attention to her.  Then there's Marcelo.  He says he cares about Daniela, but he just doesn't think anything bad happened to her and it won't be long before she shows up.  Marcelo tells her that bad news comes quickly.  Mili says she swears she doesn't know what to think, she just feels her soul is hanging by a thread.  Marcelos tells his mom to calm down, he's going to do all he can to locate Dani.

Sergio comes into work and asks Leti why she came to his apartment.  She tells him to see if he could tell her where to locate her father.  Me? How would I know?  Well he comes to see the boss and you work closely with him, so I figured you would know. Lety says she's too embarrassed to ask Mario herself. Sergio says nope I don't know, but why do you want to get a hold of your father?  Lety says that's her business.   Well okay then,..why don't you ask Felicia?  She can give you the information, right?

Dani wants to know why Rick lied about the assault.  He should have told her the truth from the very beginning.  Well I did it to protect you.  He doesn't want her involved in his personal problems and work issues.   Dani keeps pressing what do your work business have to do with her.  What does your have to do with what she did? And don't tell me it's because she's crazy, because like the Detective, I won't be satisfied either.  Rick says he's known that family for a long time and they've never gotten along well.  To complicate matters further, now he's an attorney working for her husband's business partner. Now that partnership is being terminated.  Dani still wonders what that has to do with anything.  Rick tells Dani that Rebecca's husband is about to lose a large part of the fabrica and the money and she doesn't like it.  Since The woman is obviously not well in the head, she wants to intimidate him to abandon the case.  Dani is still skeptical and thinks the whole thing is strange, but Rick tells her to look at him in his eyes and then assures her that she is someone very important to him and he hates lying to her. He doesn't want her to lose faith in him.  Dani says in these kinds of situations it can't be different.  Rick tells her to think, if he was trying to trick her why would he accuse Rebecca in front of her.  So that he would to go through all of these explanations he's giving her?  The reason he's doing it is because he doesn't want secrets between them. Dani says if it hadn't been for that detective, she still would think it was an a robbery assault and she would have never learned the truth.   Well if it hadn't been for that detective, I would have never known you have a mother-in-law and that you live with her.  Now you can 'splain to me por favor!  Snap!

Al comes to the Fabrica and is told by Normita that Magda has been waiting awhile for him in his office.  Before he leaves, Normita asks if he's feeling ok. Yeah why?  Well you look a bit drawn/gaunt.   Al says yes, he doesn't know why the whole world is trying to make him sick.   He gives Magda a warm greeting in his office and she tells him she has been meaning to come by for a few days,  to give him an invitation to her wedding but for one reason or another hasn't been able too.   He tells her that Mario is a very fortunate man because he's marrying a grand woman.  Magda says and Mario is a grand man.   Magda says Al and Naz are going to be her witnesses, Al says of course.  Magda says she also doesn't want Rebecca there and Al says he understands and she is within her rights; he doesn't want her there either. He tells Mags that he's started the divorce proceedings. Magda asks if Al's decision has to do with Ricardo told him about her.  Al says no, he had already lost confidence in her but what Ricardo said did add to it, especially when he learned….  Magda prompts him, you learned what?  Al says he has a question for Mags, when everything with her wedding busted up and she left, did she talk to Adriana?  Mags says yes when she arrived at the convent she called Adrian to let her know she was alright.  Well did she say anything?  Anything about what?  Al says about how she was feeling.  Magda is thoughtful in this moment as she reflects and says what she remembers is that her sister sounded sensitive and had been crying.  Crying? Why?  Asks Al.   Magda tells Al that Adriana told her she missed her very much but was happy that Mags had gone to resume her life away from all the crap.  The both ponder that for a few seconds before Mags asks Al why he's asking about all of this.  Al says no reason, maybe it's just that he's also very sensitive in this moment.

At casa Gax,  Rebecca encounters sNora on the second level hall way.  Where are you going?  I have an appointment with my psychiatrist, I'm sure you don't mind.  No of course not, if that makes you feel good than I'm all for it.   Okay well bye…oh and by the way, did you know that Marcelo's brother committed suicide?  Rebecca says yes, she heard something about it.  sNora says it make her skin crawl when he told her.  It also got her attention when she found out that he did it because of a woman. What a bad thing.  Rebecca says she has no idea but she thinks it's something that shouldn't interest either her or sNora. Right?  Clearly it does, but sNora says of course not.   As soon as she is out the door,  Rebecca is up the stairs to sNora's room with Lucia not far behind confirming that sNora did leave.  They both ransack sNora's room, looking for the gun.

Back at Mario's law firm,  Lety asks Felicia if she could please have the contact information for Ricardo Marquez.  I don't know who that man is.  Lety says it doesn't matter, she has the information it's on the agenda.  Felicia says oh sorry but the only agenda she manages is the personal one for the boss and she doesn't have the authority to give Lety that information.  Lety says look Felicia, if I'm asking for that information it's not for a whim, it's because I need it.  What do you need Lety?   Felicia begins telling Mario what's going down and he cuts her off, Felicia give her all the information she's asking for. They're at the end of the letter M.  Yes, sir!  Lety is obviously grateful to Mario for not making a big deal out of what is a delicate matter for her.  Meanwhile  Felicia who is none to pleased at being made to do something she didn't want to do reluctantly hands the card to Lety with Ricardo's deets.    We need to have a bye Feli-shuh moment soon!

sNora's room is as wrecked as her mind, except there's still no gun! Rebecca says this is a waste of time, but Lucia says that gun has to be some place.  Rebecca says maybe her daughter didn't steal her boyfriends gun and he made it up so he could find an excuse to reveal his brother's suicide to her daughter.  Lucia says if Marcelo wanted to betray her he would have already done it.  Well it's clear it's not here, who knows maybe she lost it or threw it in the trash.  Right then Tere comes in and almost has a stroke.  What happened here?  What's it to you? Rebecca asks stomping out.  Lucia tells Tere not to pay attention to her Tia, instead she wants Tere to help her clean sNora's room before she returns.  Before she returns?!!!  Yes!  Tere is like ya'll are all cuh-razy in this house!

Speaking of…the vice president of the coalition for the crazies in Puebla, tells her psychiatrist that she found out something last night that has been going round and round in her head.  What's that?  It has to do with Marcelo's brother.  He committed suicide, by shooting himself.  Why does that bother you so much? Did you know him?  sNora says no but people who kill themselves interest her.  She then asks him if he's had patients who have killed themselves.  Roman says well you have attempted it a few times right?  She says yes.  He said in fact the last time was with an over dose of pills that I supposedly prescribed you.  sNora gets super testy and says no, that was a false attempt to trick her father, but he already knows that since he already had a long talk with her sister.   Roman confirms she's right and says despite what sNora thinks her sister is very concerned for her and even if she doubts it, Lucia loves her.   sNora isn't the least bit moved and instead asks if her sister  interests him more or the same as before.  Roman is clearly frustrated and says he doesn't know why sNora insists on ending on the conversations on the same thing.  sNora says because she's not an idiot and she knows perfectly well what he feels for her sister.   Well see you next week sNora!  Oh by the way the cologne you were using before smells much better than the one you are using now.  Roman disappoints me if he can't handle this stale fruit cake.

Detective J tells his apprentice Ramos that he doesn't trust Ricardo Marquez and it makes him doubt his testimony about the hour and location of where he was with Amadiva Zuniga on the day Ligia Cervantes was murdered.  His partner asks if he believes that wound in Ric's shoulder was from Mrs. Gaxiola.   It's possible, but I don't think he's going to file a complaint. Why?  Detective J, says because even though Ric is a laywer, he doubts that he enjoys judicial proceedings.  Junior Detective says well what if we go to talk to the lady, maybe we can find out something.  Detective J, seems to like this idea.

Marcelo tells Lucia that sNora has to have hidden that gun someplace. She agrees but swears she has no idea where else to look. Marcelo says they have to find that gun.  Lucia suggest they ask Roman.  Who? sNora's psychiatrist, maybe he can help us to convince her to give it back.  Marcelo says maybe you're sister was right and he's in love with you.  Oh brother, this childish ish again?  Anyway Lucia says that was a stupid thing that sNora made up.  Lucia suggest they both go and talk to Roman to get his help and that way Marcelo can get to know him.  Marcelo suggest she go alone, he has a lot of work to do and besides he needs to find Daniela.  He explains to Lucia what happened last night and this morning Dani doesn't answer her cell and he's called everywhere, the red cross and all the hospitals. No one knows anything about her.  Do you think something happened to her?  Marcelo doesn't know but he can't help but feel worried.

Daniela finally slinks in and Mili is waiting at the table.  Well thank God you finally arrived where have you been?  I was so worried.  Dani tells Mili that she already knows that old biddy called the Public Ministry and discovered her lie.   Mili now wants to know where Dani was all night and with who?  Dani rightfully tells the old gal with all due respect you need too back it up and mind your biz.  She's about to walk away when Mili grabs her and swings her around.  She will not tolerate Dani speaking to her that way.  Oh yeah? Well I won't tolerate you meddling in my life, what I do or don't do is my business.  Mili says Dani is an ungrateful and forgets how quickly all Mili has done for her. She's supported her with Marcelo, given advice and protected her like a daughter.  Well no one asked you to, my mother died many years ago and I haven't the slightest intention of finding a substitute.  Mili hears her but she doesn't recognize Dani. What's going on with you?   Dani says the only thing she just said, she's tired of Mili trying to manage her life.  I rent this place and I don't think it's convenient anymore for us to continue sharing it.  So are you throwing me out?  No. I'm asking in the nicest way to go!  Dang that Mili she sure  gets tossed out a lot .   Guess Ric will be a frequent guest now.

Naz recounts Amadiva's pottery throwing temper tantrum and that Lalo has filed a report regarding the situation to Marcelo, but Al is checked out. He apologizes to Naz but he's got something going round and round in his head that he can't get out.   Naz offers to help but Al tells him it's something he had to resolve on his own.  Nosy Naz says oh so I'm not no longer useful for you to unburden yourself? Or you don't have trust in me?   Al says he has a lot of trust in Naz but this is a delicate matter that involves Rebecca.  Naz still presses anyway.  What happened this time?   Al says he hasn't been able to confirm it yet, but if he does,  he doesn't know what he's capable of.  Naz looks worried.

At casa Gax,  Rebecca puffs her ciggy on the driveway when Tere comes to tell her that the Detective is here to see her.   Rebecca looks rattled and tells Tere to tell them she's not here.   Too late, I already told them you were here and they are in the living room.   Rebecca stubs out the ciggy and puts her game face on.  She strides coolly into her house and asks why do you want to talk to me?  Detective J, plays his own hand and tells her that after he spoke with her yesterday he was very intrigued and so he went to see Ricardo Marquez.  And?  Well I was surprised to hear that he wants me to lock you up, he's ready to file a complaint for attempted murder.  Oh so he's okay.  So you accept that he accuses you of trying to murder him? After everything he's done to me, it's the least he deserves.  *Cue sNora listening at the door*  Rebecca proceeds to tell Detective J, that Ric caused her marriage to fall apart with lies and then he tried to rape her.  *Cue sNora busting in*  Who?  Who tried to rape you?  Answer me mom, tell me the name of that miserable and what story he made up about you.  You gotta love sNora, she will throw down with Lucifer himself to defend her mama!  Well don't stay quiet tell me!   Rebecca tells Detective J, if they have nothing else to please leave so she can talk with her daughter.  She calls for Tere and then tells Detective J, unless he has a warrant to take her to jail.  He tells her that's all for the moment and of course they'll be in contact.   Tere is instructed to show them out.   They have barely hit the door when Rebecca tells sNora who the man is.   His name is Ricardo Marquez the man who left your Aunt Magdalena at the altar.   Oh boy…gun meet Ricardo.  Do we see this coming or what?  Rebecca knows full well what her daughter is capable of and Rebecca doesn't do anything without intention.   Outside Detective J tells his junior Detective that yup, she tried to murder Ricardo Marquez. Well why didn't you arrest her?  Det. J says because we need a formal complaint and I don't think we're going to get one.   Junior evidently knows the law better because he says attempted murder is a legal investigation, no need for that official complaint.  Det J says yes, but he prefers to wait until he has more proof.  Rebecca Murillo could say it was in self defense.  Grasshopper says alright.  Det J says look Ramos when everything is cloudy it's best to have all the hairs of the mockery in the hand before acting.  Or something to that effect.  Ramos says yeah yeah..I know.   Det J says what is the most curios is the relationship between the young lady that was with Ricardo Marquez.  She's the cousin of the woman who was murdered.   Ramos says yeah, because it's really strange that she would be with the man who gave the alibi for the primary suspect in her cousin's murder.  Exactly! Let's see where all this leads us.  Where's the car?   Ramos tells him this way.

Back inside the casa Gax,  Rebecca tells sNora what Ricardo is saying. That he left Magda at the altar because she had pledged eternal love to him and promised to run away with him.  sNora asks if it isn't true.  Of course not! I'm offended that you would doubt me. sNora says she doesn't understand why that man would make up such things.   Rebecca says she doesn't have the slightest idea why either but just before that he was trying to blackmail her for money and because she refused he's inventing all these things.  sNora wants to know why he's dealing with her mother, there's a reason.  Rebecca says she doesn't know, maybe because she's a married woman he thought he could manipulate her.  She tells sNora that he's also the man that called the other day on the phone.  You told me that he was a man that Sara and her daughter contacted to cause trouble between you and my father.  Rebecca says well all of it has to do with each other and that lout is Lety's father.  The same man you met when you went to her house.  Really?  Yes.  sNora asks if her father knows all of this.  Rebecca says he doesn't know that the man tried to rape her but Al knows all of the stuff Ric is accusing her of regarding Magdalena.  That's what he's using to ask me for a divorce.   sNora can't handle all of this mess and says she's sorry but this is all too strange but Rebecca has an answer for all it.   Ric is a man who disappeared after leaving Lety's mother pregnant and Magdalena jilted at the alter.  Now he shows up all these years later looking to get money from whomever.  Does he seem a trust worthy person?  sNora was putting up a good struggle but  I'm starting to feel sorry for her.  She's like a rat in a Boa's mouth, slowly being swallowed.

Lety debates whether to call her bio dad and after a false start actually goes through with it. Ring, ring!   Hello…..Heello!   It's Lety.  Lety! What a surprise.   She tells him she heard that he was attacked and wanted to see if he was okay.  He says yes he was stabbed in the shoulder but he's better and thanks her for worrying. He gently urges her to come see with her own eyes, that's he much better.  She panic and says she can't then abruptly hangs up.  Sergio comes upon right then and asks who she was talking to.  She says it was personal.  Lety what the hell is the matter?  With me? *shrug* Nothing.  Well don't play dumb, tell me what your problem is with me.  What makes you think I have a problem with you?  Sergio says it's been weeks that she's been distant with him and then he finds out from the boss that she wants to resign because she's suddenly uncomfortable working with him. Are you going to deny it?  No.  Okay then what did I do? At what moment did we stop being friends?  Lety's feelings begin bubbling up and up and she even stands up and says are you that stupid that you don't realize?  Realize what?  Oh..nothing important.  Sergio tells her the only thing he knows is that she is burning up with anger because the boss is marrying another woman and she's taking it out on Sergio.  It's not his fault she fell in love with a man twice her age and he doesn't return her feelings.  Sergio leaves Lety speechless. Probably the first time in her life she doesn't get the last word.  Sergio is a cutie for sure.

Roman who seems to be unwinding in his office with a solo game of chess, gets a call from Lucia. He appears happy to hear from her, or perhaps it's just he's happy to talk to someone normal?  He asks how she's doing and she says fine…but then says no not fine.  Today a problem came up with sNora and she wants to know if she can come by to talk with him. He tells her has a busy schedule today but later he has to go out to see a patient, can they meet around eight outside the office?   Lucia says that's perfect and they agree to meet then at a coffee shop, named Miro.  After they hang up he has the I've-been-sprinkled-with-fairy-dust grin on his face and it's obvious he's looking forward to seeing princess fairy Lucia later.  sNora knew the signs before he did.

Right after that, Marcelo gets a call from the fairy asking him if he's heard from Daniela.  He says no and she then tells him she knows he's busy but she made an appointment with sNora's psychiatrist and she hopes he can come.  He says he doubts he'll be able to go but he certain she can resolve this without him.  She says she'll call him when she's done.  Kisses!  Kisses right back at'cha!  Marcelo playfully teases her to not get all dolled up for her appointment.  She tells him not to start with his silly jealousy. Right then there's a knock at her door and it's Tere who has come to see if either of the two dresses in her hand will be appropriate for Magda's wedding.   Lucia says of course.   Tere thinks neither of them are elegant enough but Lucia says her aunt's wedding is going to be simple.  So Lucia picks the blue one and holds up to her own body, so Tere can see how lovely it is.   Lucia says speaking of her Aunt, she has to go and see her about something important.  She heads out and tells Tere one more time..the blue one!   Tere admires her reflection with the dress against  her.   Oh yes girl..I can already see myself…I can see myself!  I love Tere, she's such a fun girl!

Meanwhile at the Fabrica, Lalo tries to get Naz to help him decide between two ties that he bought at a retired pimps yard sale. Naz tries delicately to weasel out of making a choice by saying he's not good at this stuff but Lalo says well just pick one. Marcelo comes along and gets asked to pick one.  He gets the I-tried-to-avoid-this-too look, but Marcelo just rips the band aid off and says, no offense but I think I'd buy a new tie. Both of these ties are too flashy.  Lalo turns to Naz and asks if he thinks the same. Yes.  Lalo says but they have Toucans.  That's why, says Naz.   Lalo says well he thinks the same thing, because the last thing he plans to do is go and embarrass anyone.  Naz is glad that Marcelo told Lalo the truth, Marcelo thinks Lalo will be grateful later.  They chuckle and then Marcelo asks if he's seen Alonso because he has some papers for him to sign.  Naz says no but he was there earlier in the morning and he said some things that Naz wants to discuss with Marcelo.

At the hospital courtyard,  Sara and Al discuss the request she put into the archive department, to see if they can confirm that Adriana was admitted twice the day she died.  Al ask if they said how long it would take to get the information. Sara says no, but she thinks it's going to be awhile and besides it's been more than twenty years and there have been various administrations, and  systems have been updated.  Al says yes, but he can't wait he has to know what happened. He suggest maybe that she talk to Amadiva. Why?  Because he and Ric are friends, maybe he told Amador that he left Magda for Rebecca.  Sara reminds Al that Amador is not someone to trust and that he's going to say exactly what Ricardo wants him to.  Al says she's right and Sara suggest he let all of this go,  all this digging in the past is hurting him.   Al says maybe but he can't just stay with is arms crossed.  He asks Sara to do him a favor and until they find out something, he wants it kept between the two of them and especially don't say anything to Magda.  She agrees.  He says he has to go and she worries he's now going to look for Amador.  Al says no, he's going to see Mario because he has the divorce papers ready.  Al is happy because as soon as this is over, he and Sara will start a new life.  After a sweet kiss, she tells him that if he doesn't see his cardiologist they won't be able to start anything.  She offers to make him an appointment but he refuses and says he'll tell her what he told Rebecca. He has no plans on dying until he finds out what really happened.  Oh brother…that's not a good thing to throw out into the universe Al.

Marcelo asks Naz if Al mentioned anything about his brother and Rebecca.  Naz says no Al only mentioned Rebecca and that it was a serious situation and when he had confirmation he didn't  how he would be capable of reacting. Marcelo says maybe he was talking of something else.  Naz says probably but the situation between Rebecca and Marcelo's brother was serious and then there's the fact he died. Naz says he just wanted to give Marcelo a heads up. Marcelo thanks Naz.  No need he says and leaves.  Marcelo gets a call from Rafi alerting him to Dani's reappearance.  Where was she?  I don’t know, that's all your mother said.

Whinenelia shows up to Rick's place and he says he didn't think she was going to come back.  I told you I was going to bring you medicines. Your anti- inflammatory and antibiotics.  He tells her she is an extraordinary nurse and then pulls her into a passionate kiss.  She responds and then pulls away, and says since he's feeling better next time he will come to see her.   He says no..I have no desire to meet your mumsy-in-law.  She corrects him..Ex suegra and don't worry because she's not going to live with me anymore. Ric says when the name Rebecca Murillo came up earlier, she didn't seem surprised.  Dani says let's just say I know who she is, we've spoken a few times and I don't trust her either.  Ric keeps fishing and Dani says to discuss her she'd need to tell him all about her ex and that's in the past.  Yes?  Yes.  Completely sure?  Completely sure.  The two kiss and Dani looks like a guppy gasping for air.  I can't.

Magda tells Sara that she's going to miss her seniors..blah blah…you're only gone two weeks. That's a long time when you're old.  Sara tells her not to exaggerate and that they should go so she can say goodbye to them.

Mario has the divorce papers ready and offers to have them sent to Rebecca but Al prefers to give them to her in person. Baaaad idea Al!  He asks Mario how long it will take and Mario says uncontested about two months but he doubts that will be the case here.  Al says yes, Rebecca has said a thousand times she won't sign divorce papers. Is there a way to force her?  Mario says we have to wait for the judge to weigh in, but he tells Al to not worry about all that right now.  What matters is he's taking the first step.  Al says the next thing is he wants to modify his will.  He has everything in order and hands a file to Mario.  Mario says all he has to do is get everything in order and then find his notary.  The only glitch would be it would have to wait until he gets back from his honeymoon in two weeks.  The other option is Al can go directly to the notary.  Al says, no, he can wait until Mario gets back. He doesn't want to pressure Mario right before his wedding.  Mario confirms Al is going to be there and he says he wouldn't miss it for anything.   Oh gosh all of this doesn't sound good at all.

Back at the hospital, Sara is surprised by her seniors and Lucia with a bachelorette party!  How cute.  What are you doing here? Magda asks Lucia.  Lucia tells her that Sara told her about it and she's so happy to see how all of these people love her aunt so much.  Magda says not as much as she loves them.  She's presented with a gift by her group of elderly friends.  Meanwhile Sara pulls Lucia off to the side to ask her to convince her father to see his cardiologist.  Lucia says he's not fine is he?  Sara assures her that he's not delicate but he needs to be under observation.  Lucia swears she will even if she has to drag him.   They resume the party with Magda who is so happy and excited.

Night falls in Puebla and it's eight pm.  Lucia meets her new admirer she apologizes for being late.  He offers to order her a drink but she refuses saying she came from a bachelorette party and already ate a lot.  He asks her what new problem her sister is in.  How do I start? How ever you want.

Brigiduh sighting!  She comes down stairs and asks Amadiva if it's true what he told her yesterday. Is Al really going to leave you in the streets?  Of course it's true he's the majority shareholder and owner of the Fabrica. Al can do what he wants.  Brigi suggest he call Ricardo, he's a lawyer.  Amadiva says he already did it and he was no help.  He had no idea what an incompetent lawyer Ric was.   Well what are we going to do? How are we going to live?  Amadiva thought she was leaving him.  Brigi says seeing as how things are, she thinks they should go on living together.  Amadiva says oh wow, that's so kind of you Brigi.  Yeah yeah..well what do you plan to do to get out of this problem?  Amadiva has no idea but he may have to sell the house and they'll have to start over again and somewhere else.   He tells her he's on his way to call Mario to sign the dissolution of the partnership. Brigi clearly wasn't prepared for any of this.

Lucia tells Roman this is serious.  There's no doubt sNora has that gun and the have to find it.  He/Roman is their only hope in getting sNora to return it.  Roman says that's all good and well but then he'd have to tell her how he knows all about this.  Lucia says yes, she has no problem with him telling sNora how he knows and she also doesn't care if then she says that you… Roman says that I what?  Finish what you were going to say. Lucia says it's a stupid thing that sNora got in her head and she doesn't stop repeating it.  She even told Marcelo.  Roman asks her to tell him what stupid thing sNora said.  Lucia says it embarrasses her but she's going to tell him so it doesn't come as a surprise to him.  Snora says that you're especially interested in me.   Roman says well, your sister is telling the truth. She's not inventing anything.  I think you're a very attractive woman especially a very interesting one.  Right then Marcelo comes in to what appears to be a very intimate moment between the not-a-couple-but-they-look-like-one.  Lucia looks guilty and Roman looks at her with completely adoring eyes.  Oh boy!  Things just got super fun and Marcelo…this guy never once rolled in the sheets with tia Rebecca. Just sayin'.

Do-hyun and Ri-jin separately get ready for their day out, and Do-hyun’s burdened expression contrasts sharply with Ri-jin’s excitement. He finds Se-gi’s toy train in his wardrobe, and it reminds him of little Ri-jin.

Finally on the Snowflake Train, Do-hyun writes busily in a notebook while Ri-jin enthuses over the scenery. She fakes seeing a deer to snatch his notebook from him, and reads off a list of questions: hobbies, favorite colors, favorite things. He defensively reminds her that she told him that if they took a trip together, he could get to know her more.

She laughs at his strictly regimented schedule, and pounces on one of his items… which finds them playing the Zero game. His slow reactions crack her up, and she gleefully delivers wrist-smacks as punishment. When he declares it all invalid, his callback to Se-gi makes her grin even more.

They scramble off at their stop. Inside the train hang postcards they’ve written commemorating the happy moment. Ri-jin’s thanks him for keeping his promise, and Do-hyun’s characteristically says, “Remember: 26th February, 2015.”

Skipping ahead, Ri-jin tells Do-hyun her newly remembered memory. She was playing with a train set with another kid, and they promised to take a faraway train trip when they grew up. She tells him that Ri-on would say the kid was him, but she knows it wasn’t.

Grandma gets the report that Do-hyun’s uncle is urgently seeking a child. Her aide adds that her longtime boardroom supporters had a secret conference with Uncle, and points out that firing Do-hyun has left her at a disadvantage for the upcoming shareholders meeting. The suggestion that she might want to recall him makes her grim.

On his way out, the aide catches Do-hyun’s mom listening at the door.

Mom dines with Uncle, who guesses the reason she summoned him is to take care of Do-hyun. Since she’s only after capitalizing Do-hyun’s interests, it doesn’t matter whether it comes from Grandma’s side or his. Mom wants him to fork over the management for the group’s department store and car subsidiaries to Do-hyun, which is more than Uncle has in mind. He wants to know what’s in it for him.

Do-hyun giggles at Ri-jin’s kimbap-fail, and she swears they didn’t look like that in the morning, ha. As they slurp noodles, she confesses her two failings: she can’t cook (unlike her mom), and she sucks at arithmetic (like Dad).

He asks her how she takes after her brother, and she quips that they have a tendency to use their fists before their words. Also, neither can refuse other people’s requests, and they share a fear of basements. The last almost makes his smile slip.

An interlude takes us back to his conversation with Ri-on the day before, when he told him he had read “The Child in the Basement.”

He fills Ri-on in on how the story continued: The girl and the boy promised to meet every night at 10 o’clock, in the basement where the girl was locked up. Ri-on asks why the girl had to be hidden away. Do-hyun hasn’t found that out yet, but he begins to tell the story of what happened there 21 years ago.

In the present, Ri-on packs up and drives somewhere while Do-hyun’s story continues in voiceover. Keeping their promise to meet was hard, he says, because if the boy was found out or did something wrong, his father punished the girl instead.

Ri-jin and Do-hyun madly pedal a railrider along a country track, cheering each other on, while Do-hyun’s narration continues:

Do-hyun: “The boy who could not protect that girl took his memories of despair, pain, and powerlessness and sealed them up. And then he carved up his own self into pieces. But the sealed memories went wrong. He mistook the terrible abuse the girl suffered as his own memories, because he had wanted to suffer that abuse instead of the girl. Because he’d earnestly hoped that he’d be the one to feel the pain that the girl suffered.”
Ri-on reassures Do-hyun that he isn’t to blame: He didn’t stand idly by, and was a victim himself. Pretending not to see anything is always easiest — if just one of those bystanders had done something, then the victim’s soul wouldn’t have been ravaged, Ri-on says.

Do-hyun asks him to write that novel on Seungjin. This time, Do-hyun will provide the material — his only condition is that Ri-on make it a bestseller.

Back in the present, Ri-jin reminisces with Do-hyun about fighting with her brother during a family holiday when they were kids. She tells Do-hyun that she learned some martial arts techniques from Ri-on, and laughingly notes that it’s been pretty useful in life — like when she needs rein in Yo-na. The mention makes him shudder, and she pokes fun at him.

In answer to his question, Ri-jin tells him her name means “bright treasure,” as in clever. Do-hyun tells her it suits her, and promises to remember it for a long time. Gah why does everything sound like goodbye?

They walk together along the railroad, and when she sees the sea, Ri-jin runs ahead into the waves. Do-hyun hangs back.

“Oh Ri-jin…” he starts. She stops him — she knows what he’s going to say. His lost memories have come back, haven’t they? And she’s in them. She thinks they must be bad memories that would be upsetting for her to remember, and that’s why he’s planning to say goodbye now. She faces out to sea, eyes full.

Do-hyun thanks her for all she’s done. He tells her that his grandmother and mother know about his illness, and he no longer needs her services. Therefore, their contract is over as of today.

Her back still to him, she keeps her tone bright and tells him he should leave first, if he has the confidence to show her his back. He goes.

Ri-on arrives as Do-hyun leaves, and drops a blanket over Ri-jin’s crouched figure. She takes it off, and he pulls out his usual bluster and takes her away to get warm.

Over a hot meal, she wonders if the two of them planned this whole thing together. He admits they did, the day before at the hospital. Do-hyun was going to break up with her, but couldn’t bear to leave her by herself.

She hasn’t got much to say to that, and just tucks into her soup like it doesn’t matter. Ri-on’s concerned and begs her to react, to curse him or Do-hyun (“that jerk”).

She tells him that Do-hyun wants to keep her from remembering the bad memories of her past. Ri-on agrees with that line of reasoning, and says that she’s been fine all this time without those awful memories. Her life is good. She has her family, and they have each other — can’t they go on as before?

Seeing her hold it in, he tells her to just let it out and cry, and she finally lets herself.

Do-hyun’s not doing much better at home. Chief Ahn finds him stretched out on his couch, arm over eyes. Do-hyun tells him Ri-jin’s last words, and how he turned away so coolly. Chief Ahn asks if he’s been drinking. He has, but he’s not drunk, Do-hyun replies. He wishes he were crazy-drunk right now, so that Se-gi or Perry would come out and take a year of his time away. But those guys are never around when you need them, he laugh-cries.

Chief Ahn, bless him, puts him to bed. He tells Do-hyun that the pain of heartbreaks is not to be scoffed at. It sounds like he knows all about it, Do-hyun observes. The chief just tells him that crying could help. It’s not the same as losing your country — but Do-hyun cuts in that he does feel like he unfairly lost his country: “The country I long for all the time, even though I left.”

Over breakfast at the Oh house, Ri-on mutters to Ri-jin that she should tone it down if she doesn’t want her heartbreak to be obvious. Mom and Dad both pick up on her forced cheerfulness and wonder what’s up. They bicker about the cause — could it be that she’s not eating properly? Or maybe she eats too much and that’s why she gets treated badly, Mom says. Dad is so upset by the idea of her eating habits being criticized that he tells Ri-jin to quit right away.

Right on cue, her luggage from Do-hyun’s house arrives back. They’re shocked that that she was fired, but Ri-jin points out that Dad told her to quit, and takes credit for obeying him so promptly. She shrugs off Ri-on’s help and leaves to unpack on her own, while Dad still thinks she lost the job because of her eating, lol.

Alone, Ri-jin sighs over her bunny pajamas, wishing she had given them to Yo-na. She’s interrupted by a call — it’s Grandma Seo.

Do-hyun and Dr. Seok talk, and Do-hyun tells him how he’s sharing Se-gi’s memories and also slowly recovering his lost childhood ones. Dr. Seok muses that only integration is left now, before he goes back to the U.S. Do-hyun doesn’t plan to return yet, though — he still has to uncover why that child had to be hidden and why she was abused, he says. Only then can he begin to make amends. Dr. Seok, who doesn’t yet know that child was Ri-jin, tells Do-hyun he should continue receiving her private help.

Ri-jin is shown into Grandma’s study and the housekeeper makes a secret call to Chief Ahn to let him know. He takes the call while meeting with Min Seo-yeon’s former driver, trying to track down the employees from the day of the fire.

Chief Ahn updates Do-hyun on the investigation. As an afterthought, he adds that Ri-jin was summoned by Grandma — news that sends Do-hyun racing to his car.

Grandma is displeased to find out Ri-jin is no longer Do-hyun’s secret doctor, and dismisses her. But Ri-jin pauses to say one more thing, as his former doctor: He can’t heal from his illness alone, and he badly needs his family’s care. If his grandmother helped him find out his past, it could help his treatment. Oh Ri-jin, if only you knew.

Grandma warns Ri-jin that she is overstepping. True to form, she only has scorn for Do-hyun and asks what help there is for someone who’s stuck on the past. Does Ri-jin want her to apologize?

Ri-jin replies with a quote from Swiss theologian Karl Barth: “While no one can go back and create a new beginning, everyone can start anew and create a new ending.” Grandma does not like being schooled, and orders her out.

As Ri-jin leaves, Grandma mutters that she’s impertinent, dislodging an old memory of those same words. She freezes. When she catches sight of the photos of Do-hyun’s dad, her breath catches and the room darkens around her. Grandma watches her like a hawk as the housekeeper helps her outside.

Before Ri-jin can exit the house, she’s gripped by another flashback. Little Ri-jin plays violin, accompanying the boy on the piano. He gets it wrong, and Evil Dad approaches Ri-jin with a cane, sneering that she’s just like her mother. He drags her away, while a sobbing Do-hyun begs to take the punishment instead of her.

Ri-jin stumbles from one memory to another: She’s locked in the basement, rattling at the handle. Then, she backs into a corner as Dad approaches with his arm raised. The boy’s appeals for her to be spared are constant, and little Ri-jin pleads for mercy.

Finally out of the house and in the present, Ri-jin recalls Do-hyun’s mission to find the child in his basement. She suddenly wonders if that child was her. The pieces come together in her mind, like Do-hyun’s apology for being late being an exact echo of the boy of her memories. Which means…that boy in her memories is Do-hyun?

She remembers Do-hyun telling her to stop searching out her lost memories for his sake. As the full implication hits her, she collapses to her knees.

Just arrived, Do-hyun sees her and comes running. But she’s lost in the pain of her memories, and reflexively curls into a ball, crying. He reaches for her — and stops himself, allowing the housekeeper to bundle her inside.

Do-hyun bursts into Grandma’s study, demanding to know what she said to Ri-jin. Grandma says she wanted to consult with his doctor, and Do-hyun asks what more she can possibly want to find out about him. Characteristically, she ignores him and instead tells him join the company. She wants him in the construction subsidiary, and tells him to prepare for a shareholder meeting.

Do-hyun declines (yeah! Stick it to her!). She’s taken aback by his refusal, and he repeats what he told her before, that he has things to do. He won’t return to the company. With that, he exits.

A dead-eyed Ri-jin meets with Ri-on. Staring out the window, she asks him to interpret her “nightmare.” She describes the boy playing on the piano who made a mistake, and how a man imprisoned her in the basement because of it. Every night at 10 o’clock, she waited for the boy to come and play with her. Was that boy Ri-on — or was it Cha Do-hyun?

Ri-on asks if her memories have come back. She wonders just how much he knew, and how much he and Do-hyun colluded to keep the truth from her. But, she tells him, she’ll find out for herself.

Ri-jin finds her mom, and can’t help crying as soon as she sees her. She tells Mom that she’s curious now about her birth parents, and what kind of people they were.

Chief Ahn has some new documents for Do-hyun’s investigation. He gives him a copy of the family register, and Min Seo-yeon’s immigration records. The latter show her entering the country with Grandma and a 6-year-old girl in June 1993, but he points out that all official trace of that girl vanished thereafter.

But Do-hyun is confused by the family register. His dad returned to Seungjin with Do-hyun in order to enter him into the registry so he could enter school. But why is his name already registered here months before anyone knew of his existence? Oh man, I have a weird hunch.

Ri-jin’s mom gives her an envelope containing some of her birth mother’s effects. Ri-jin doesn’t have the courage to look at it right away and instead asks her mom to tell her more about Min Seo-yeon. She was capable and kind, Mom says, like Ri-jin. But marrying into a rich, messed-up family changed her.

Mom explains that Seo-yeon had loved someone else, but was pressured into her marriage. She was so competent that her father-in-law (i.e., Do-hyun’s grandfather) preferred her to his own son. In the end, her husband fell out badly with his father and left, finally giving her the divorce she begged for.

Seo-yeon confided to Mom then that she’d found her man, and she was going to the U.S. to be with him. Mom surmises that that man was Ri-jin’s biological dad. But he was dying, and Seo-yeon returned to Korea with Ri-jin.

Mom stops there, and promises to tell her the rest slowly. Ri-jin apologizes to her, and tearfully tells her it’s not because she doesn’t love her. It’s just that the memories keep rising up and torturing her. Mom, also crying, reassures her that she understands.

Do-hyun is studying the register again, when his head rings with the pain that usually signifies a switch. Memories of both Ri-jins, child and adult, overlap in his mind. The pain intensifies and he screams.

Ri-jin opens the envelope her mom left, and recognizes the burnt photo — but this is the original, including little Ri-jin with her arms around her mother. She spills the rest of the contents out and finds the locket.

Do-hyun bolts awake, a giant teddy bear lying beside him. He slowly approaches the foot of his bed — to meet a vision of little Ri-jin. She holds her hands out for the bear, and he smiles that broken little smile as he hands it over.

She says she’ll tell him her name now, since she couldn’t last time. He already knows it, he says — it’s Oh Ri-jin. She shakes her head. He’s surprised. What is it then?

Ri-jin opens the locket to her mother’s picture. In her memory, she hears a woman call, “Do-hyun-ah!” She wonders why she’s calling Do-hyun’s name, when another memory rises.

Little Ri-jin plays on a swing and a woman calls Do-hyun. She replies, “Mommy!” and goes running to her. Her mother chides her for playing dangerously, “If Do-hyun gets hurt, do you know upset mommy will be?” Ri-jin promises to be more careful, and Mommy wraps her in a cuddle, so proud of her super-smart daughter, Do-hyun. Oh man.

Shell-shocked in the present, Ri-jin thinks, “My name is…”

Little Ri-jin confides to Do-hyun. “My name is… Cha. Do. Hyun.”
